What lumber and hardware are needed for a 12 x 8 floating dock? Thanks.

If you go to the multinautic docks web site they have a very good set of instructions on how to plan your dock. One thing they don't list clearly is that if you use 5/4 x 6" lumber for decking, your joists need to be 16" on center. If you use 2x6 decking they can be 24" on center. Hope this helps.

Is it possible to combine two kits to build a larger dock - do you have plans for a 2 kit design?
Asked by: Morton
Hello Morton, If you wish to combine two kits to make a larger one, we suggest that you join them with long carriage bolts in the middle and then add full length boards on the side to strengthen the assembly and to hide the connection. This larger kit will be sturdy if you use 2" x 8" boards for its assembly. A long semi-floating dock section to begin the installation with hinges, allowing for the floating dock to move freely, is mandatory for a secure layout. Make sure to have a good anchoring system as suggested in the Dock Assembly Guidelines. If it applies to your location, read the Multinautic guide on our website that explain the basics of how to winterize docks called "Danger of ice damage on docks".
