Q:Does New Color provide a color chart for pigment?

Answer This Question

A:  No it does not come with a color chart. You will just need to blend it to your preference. A little goes along way, but keep in mind it dries lighter than your wet color.

Q:If I mix 1 lb. of this green colorant with White cement in traditional 1 cement, .5 lime, 3 part fine sand for stucco mix, will I get a decent Lt. sage, or Pistachio , or Mint color batch if I'm starting batch with 94 lb. of white portland in mixer?

Q:How much of the green color will I need for six yards of concrete? "NEWLOOK" concrete color in green how many pounds will it take to cover six yards of concrete?

    Answer This Question

A:  Much more than you think. The instructions given to me said 1lb dye/60lbs of concrete would be plenty. For me, 1lb barely added any green color with extremely thorough machine mixing. It took closer to 2 1/4lb per 60lbs of concrete. If you have a cement company near you I’d suggest seeing if they sell dye. As the dye from my local cement company was much more brilliant color, and mixed in more equally with less machine mixing time than this stuff. I am not at all happy with this dye.

    NewLook cement colorant.
I went totally rogue with my application. Everybody was complaining about inconsistent color when mixed into the cement, so I did it differently. At the time, what I received was still coming in the plastic containers, and I ordered brown. I mixed an entire container of it into a 5 gallon bucket of water, funneled it into a backpack sprayer, 2 galons at a time (weight), and tried it on a section of wood fence we knew we needed to stain. It went on evenly, and in a good deep color, with the grain of the fence still visible, like a good stain would. We have a lot of privacy fence around an entire acre, and this went on fast and even. That was 10 years ago, and it still looks amazing. I discovered that as long as the material you want to stain has not been previously sealed and is still porous, this works wonderfully. After the fence, we used it to stain our concrete driveway, after cleaning it thoroughly. It worked great. It has faded a little on the driveway after 10 years, but it is a horizontal surface, and vehicles do drive on it. Even in the sun, the vertical fence may have faded some, but not visible to the naked eye. We have since used it on newly installed pavers, and are never disappointed. Thinking outside the box sometimes yields great results.

This Product required almost double the stated amount to achieve ok results. It was supposed to be a darker green according to the sales associate that recommended it to me. It was also supposed to be fade resistant. However it ranged from almost non-existent green to bright tennis court green with no middle ground, and it’s been poured a few months and it has already faded to half the darkness it was. Next time I will just skip this product from Home Depot and go back to my local cement company for their dye. Yes it IS much more expensive than this, but at least it shows the color it’s supposed to, and doesn’t fade like this stuff. Also to mention, all images show this product coming in a resealable plastic jug. Mine did not. It came in cheap plastic bags with numerous holes in them, with no real way to reseal them. I regret purchasing this dye, and I really regret not directly returning it when I saw the packaging was poor and did not match the product I was looking at.

This is the 3rd 6 lb purchase I've made. It took a few samples to get the shade I wanted but after that it was a snap to mix. Just match the weight of dye to cement. At long last the project will be completed after just two more pours.

      I've searched everywhere
This green concrete powdered dye is almost impossible to find, at least in small quantities. I was reluctant to order on-line without being able to see and feel what I was getting, but when the package arrived I was very pleasantly reassured. Home Depot will be the source for this product for me in the future.
