Q:how do you apply this to a water hose and how much freeze protection does it provide?

        Answer This Question

A:  Not used on a water hose, it does not afford any freeze protection. It is used when pipe is buried in concrete to protect the pipe

A:  this acts like a sleeve and slides over the pipe. It protects the pipe from concrete and doesn't have a specific freeze resistant capability.

This pipe guard is a thin but durable material and in my case was blue in color. It is packaged in a box, a 200 foot roll, and can open on one side so that you can just spool out the amount you need from the roll and cut it. Works great. This guard sleeve is used to encase you pipe, either copper or PVC, when you are going to bury it in concrete and helps protect from corrosion. A good idea and an added layer of protection. Recommended.

Not very durable compared to what I've used before. This product is a very thin plastic type material and can tear easily, not the thick rubber type material that much more durable.

Never thought I would ever have a need for a pipe indicator that slid over a piece of pipe, I had always used foam to cover pipe in concrete. I used this at a basement where the pipe was laid in concrete and really did well for a long run. I gave it 4 stars for installation because as I was pulling it on the pipe it kept hanging up a bit, so I had to keep walking back and forth. Would I use it again, YES.

Our box of pipe guard sleeving material was blue vs. the red as stated. That being said it was still 4mm thick and still accommodated up to 1 in. diameter piping. We liked that the box (if opened correctly) becomes the dispenser. We used it as an additional layer of protection over pex tubing for a radiant floor heating system installed in our garage floor. It being an economical product that we are hoping is an effective additional layer. It was very easy to install.

Essentially a 4 mil poyethylene sleeve for protecting 1/2 inch to 1 inch copper or plastic pipes encased in concrete or other backfill. I don't have any issues with the product - it appears to be a quality product fit for its intended use. Years ago when copper was the standard for water supply lines - by all means sleeve the copper if you are going to put it in concrete. To quote a line from the 1967 movie The Graduate - "There's a great future in plastics. Think about it. Will you think about it?" And here we are today. If I were going to run a water line encased in concrete or burried, I would use plastic - pex to be specific. Pex is rated for direct burial but needs to be in sand or stone dust. For applications other than radiant heat encased in concrete, I would sleeve the pex with pvc pipe that would allow the removal of a section if it ever needed repair/replacing. That being said, I intend to use this for some lines I intend to bury in the yard. Not necessarily to encase those lines but as a warning tape to remind me that there is a line there, should I start digging there again in a few years.
