Will this tree do well in high desert of California?

Yes, I believe it will. Our temps range from lows of 17 to highs of 110 so if your temperatures are in that range, I don't see why not. If you're unsure, verify your zone on the Agricultural Zone Map for planting.

Does this tree do well in Gilbert AZ?

Asked by Julio March 8, 2019

I lived in the Phoenix area 15 years and did not see a redbud, altho it does grow in zones 4 thru 9, and Phoenix is in zone 9. It would depend on if the soil where you live is well drained and it would be watered regularly. So it's possible, but I doubt a redbud would do well in the typical Gilbert soil, unless there is substantial fill in the area where you will plant it, loosened soil brought in to raise the level of your yard, and it's well drained. The redbud would probably also require partial shade to survive the sun and heat in your area.

The tree arrived in the box fine. There was no new growth on the tree. I planted the tree and have been tending to it for 2 weeks. I still don't see any new growth, so I’m beginning to wonder if the tree is dead? If I happen to see new growth anytime soon I will comment below.

I ordered an Eastern Redbud barefoot tree. It arrived packaged securely and with soil to keep it alive and healthy during transport. I've planted it and it is growing strongly. I can't wait to see the blooms next year. I'm very pleased with the service and I will use them again for my next tree purchases. I highly recommend them.

The tree has never sprouted new growth. I followed all the instructions, but this is a dead twig planted in our yard. We planted 2 other trees at the same time, both of those have done very well.

Purchased two trees online because I don't have a truck to transport trees. However what arrived were two bare root sticks that I could easily have brought in my car from the store. Then - no fault of Home Depot or the Nursery but shipping was delayed so it took over 2 weeks to reach me and thus these poor trees sat in a dark box without sun/water. I tried to revive them by leaving them in water for hours as instructed and then planting them. After 2+ weeks in the ground one tree has signs of life with tiny buds and a few flowers the other looks completely lifeless so now after waiting over a month to 1) get them to me 2) plant and hope they make it - I now get to pull the one back out of the ground find the paperwork and then drive the dead stick back to the store for a refund. My whole goal was to have 2 beautiful young trees in Spring and now I have 1 partially bloomed stick in the ground. :-(
