Yes, all of our pressure treated lumber can be painted or stained and sealed as soon as it is dry to the touch. Please don't wait for it to "season", that just encourages splitting and checking of the wood.
if these are marked on the end tag as "fence posts" then those are only to be used in a non structural application like as fencing. We also make 4x4 8' in a structurally treated ground contact, but from the description here I can't tell which you have. The end tag will always provide the treating grade, such as ground contact. thanks
The AWPA retention for Type C copper azole, denoted as CA-C,is 0.06 lb/ft3 for above ground & minimum of 0.15 lb/ft3 ground contact use. This product has CA-C @ 0.21 lb/ft3 = ground contact. Always brush END CUT solution w/1% or > Copper on all cut ends.
yes, good point. we source our posts from several different mills and each has it's own way of finishing the edges. thanks
That's not a question. Are you asking if this will work for a carport? Yes, it could be used in a carport. I used them to make covers for goat feeders. Goat-zebos. For a carport though, I would probably use 4x6s.
Ok. we manufacturer our products in Tacoma so very familiar with the climate. I believe you'll still get good life from these posts. Thanks.
Hello. These actually are pressure treated but they aren't intended for ground burial. As you noticed they don't have the incising marks that regular treated wood has which allow more preservative into the wood. I would say you are not necessarily "royally screwed" and should still get good life from these posts. Their life will depend on your climate, the dryer it is the longer they will last. It's definitely not worth taking them out. Thanks
Above material is Hem-Fir. A group of Hemlock and Western White Firs. Selected for appearance, 80% FOHC. "Cedar tone color" refers to the soft cedar color of our material. Good luck with your project!
It is far too heavy to be cedar. I am guessing that it is a hem/fir product. These last longer than basic cedar posts though as I use them for sprinkler risers.
Unfortunately, due to liability, we can't address load or span info. We suggest you contact a contractor or structural engineer for this info. Stella-Jones material is 2&Btr, S4S, Green, Hem-Fir. Pressure Treatment does not affect structural quality of material. Good luck with your project.
