Once repaired can you drive screws through the epoxy to affix drywall or backer board to the repaired area?
Asked by: udman
Yes. The manufacturer recommends you make SURE to first drill a pilot hole of appropriate size for your fastener.

Deck rail wood rot repair. See photos

Doing some spring upkeep around the house. My deck railing, wood attached to composite, has rot at 2 joints. See photos. The rot extends less than 12 inches up the rails. It appears this was not treated wood, as I was told when it was built.I don't have the tools to cut and replace the rail. Local handyman estimates are $250 and up to repair. The up is a budget buster.I am looking for a fix that I can afford and do myself. Is there a sealant and filler compound I can use to repair this extent of damage. Suggestions welcome. Thanks,TGWOH

This is a good product and does what it says. My experience is that it is great at filling in holes, and I am not sure you can use it for joints other than helping cosmetically. Note that the product dries really hard and it is a mixed epoxy.

I am going to restore a footlocker I brough back from Vietnam in 1972. Which product would you recommend, thePC Rotted Woodw Repair Kit or Woody Wood Epoxy paste? Also, will this contract with the wood itself? Thanks.

PC Woody and PC Lumber (in this product) work fine for damage from wood rot (exposure to moisture). But I've never tried it on bullet holes or frag damage, so you're on your own for those.

Will this work on particle bpard?
Asked by: mj
It should. As long as you can get to a decent surface for it to attach to should be fine. I had a very rotted out piece of wood that I cleaned up and rebuilt.

Rotted Wood Repair Kit is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 84.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use. If you can mix cake batter... Easy to use. If you can mix cake batter or stir together really anything, then u can easily use this stuff. I had about a 30 minute working time in shady 82 degree weather here in MI. This just means before it gets gummy and harder to spread evenly. Try not to use it in direct hot sun. It dries faster before getting it applied. It really does dry hard as a brick. Sanding it isn't easy though because it's epoxy, not just wood. Use a high grit paper. I applied a scratch coat, let it dry, then came back over with a skim coat so that it looks really good and smooth even before sanding. Go on the company's video site on the internet to get a great demonstration. Do NOT be intimidated by this product. It's REALLY EASY to use. Just follow the instructions. Just realize that anything it touches probably won't get reused. It's very sticky and it dries hard on anything it touches, including clothing, and is not easy to remove. Alcohol cleaned up my counter top easily when the product touched it and it dried, but not so much on the blending pad or tools.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome purchase!! I used this kit when refinishing an old picnic table that was in the family for over 30 years. While sanding the top I found an area where the wood was splitting and soft. I did a lot of searching on You Tube to figure out what to do and how to fix it. I had put so much time and effort into this table and didn't want this to ruin the project. I typed in "fix rotten wood" and watched "This Old House" and others fixing window sills and front porch posts where water had damaged and rotted the wood. Then I typed in "rotten wood fix" or something on that order and this kit came up from Home Depot. It was perfect for what I was doing. I didn't want to buy quarts or gallons of anything because it was only a small area. Everything you need is in this kit and easy to follow instructions. I "repaired" the small area and you can't tell after painting. If I can do it, anyone can. I painted the table with the Behrs Weatherproofing solid stain in "white" for decks. It looks fantastic!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Rotten Wood Filler Kit I used this kit to repair the bottom corner of the side house door. The rain continuously hammers the side wooden door of my house and the water settled in that one bottom section of the door and caused wood rot. Instead of replacing the whole length of wood, I thought it would be easier to just cut out the bad part and fill it in utilizing this kit and I enjoy doing projects around the house since I have free time. I followed the directions that were provided and I was satisfied with the results, however the moldable putty provided wasn't enough for my project, so I filled in the hole best as possible and used some 30 minute curing concrete mix to fill in the remainder of the hole to prevent rodents, insects, air, and water from entering the house. All the other supplies in the kit were sufficient. In the coming days a representative from Home Depot will bring a storm door to my home that I ordered and install it, so this will prevent more wood rot damage in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product I have a front entry door with side lights that had rotted underneath the glass of the side lights. It started rotting in 2007 & I thought I was going to have to replace the whole entry system until I found this product. I ordered two of these kits so that I would have enough materials. I followed the directions and got rid of as much rot as possible, then used this kit to essentially rebuild the bottom area under the glass that was so badly rotten. I let it cure overnight then sanded & repainted everything. I am amazed at how great it worked. It looks like a brand new entry system, very strong, durable and it saved me a ton of money in not having to replace everything. I def recommend this product! Looks awesome!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Buy I'm using this to fix up some old and damaged decorative corbels and it's exactly what I needed. The products are very low odor, but definitely wear gloves (staining, some skin irritation). The petrifier does a good job penetrating and hardening rotted wood (not for structural support repairs--they have other products for that). The wood epoxy is easy to mix and apply. I haven't used the "lumber" they included, yet. There is a good amount of each product. My only complaint is having to buy this online--I don't understand why Home Depit doesn't carry this in the stores.

The kit contains everything needed for the advertised purpose, and its components perform quite as promised. Instructions are clear and complete. A usage tip, however: the mixed epoxy becomes somewhat "sticky" in application and thus becomes hard to smooth out to the desired shape and position. In the instructions it says (a bit vaguely) to use lacquer thinner or alcohol in the final smoothing operation. I found it very helpful to have a container of alcohol (I was afraid lacquer thinner might melt the plastic putty knife provided) on hand in which to dip the putty knife from time to time in the final step before letting the epoxy cure. As the instructions say, this saves a lot of sanding post-cure (I've done it both ways - with and without alcohol).
