Why does Home Depot sell this product when there are so many problems? Many say it is a scam and BBB has many complaints.

I bought a radon test kit at www.RadonTestKit.com

Like i said it looks like i was never going to get my results without calling them. So their employees are not task efficient.

We consider it a scam also. We did everything per the directions and paid to have the test results but they said there was a problem with one of the test tubes. The cap was loose when we opened the package and a phone call to the company said it would not be a problem yet then there was! They offered to do the test again if we bought a second kit. Our advise is to talk to your county about getting a local test kit. Maybe then the testing company is legit.

I didn't have any problems. The test and report from the company were as described.

Because HomeDepot is a big lumbering corporation that is all about the dollar. They've driven the little guy out of business, the one who would actually listen. Enjoy your corporate overloard.

I can't speak on The Home Depot's decision to sell these as they only sell what customers purchase. Part of the problem with this sort of test device is user error. I have used these test kits for multiple real estate transactions and am happy with their test results versus other brands and the more expensive tests I have paid for with home inspectors. For me, the appeal of this product is I can purchase multiple kits for an affordable price to test an entire home. My recommendation for anyone using these kits if you are concerned about the validity of the test results: 1) use multiple kits at a time 2) follow the directions 3) vary your test window and days (not all at the same time and same days) 4) average the results to determine your risk and remediation needs. Are these the perfect test kit? Nope. Are they a good indicator of whether or not you need to correct a potentially unsafe situation? Yes!

I have to register the product before using it. During registration I have to say when it is done. But I can't start until I register it. During registration you ask when is it done, but I can't start until I register it. The question is how can I know when I'm done before I start?

Hello, Thank you for you business. Are short term kits are for two to four days. Our Long Term is for three months to a year. If you have any other question please call our Customer Service @954-384-4446.

Long term testing is considered A more accurate Representation of the actual radon levels since it accounts for seasonal changes etc. however, it is less convenient as you have to provide ‘closed house’ environment for a much longer period of time (some tests are designed for 90 days or more)

                    By|Jun 30, 2023

The length of the sample time. Most real estate transactions cannot wait weeks or months to gather a radon sample. The short-term test kit is for a quick and most likely less reliable sample of radon. The longer term kit will be for follow up testing and average radon level over a longer period of time. If you own a home and/or are considering selling, you may want to consider a long term kit to preempt any issues prior to sale.

Yes, this kit will work as long as you follow the instructions. If I remember correctly, you want to have this kit near the center of the room, a couple feet off the ground. I would not put this into or right next to the sump pump. The majority (if not all) homes with an underground basement will have a sump well and pump. Depending on the size of the basement, you may want to get a couple of these.

                          By|Nov 11, 2018

As most sump pumps are on the perimeter of a basement I performed my radon test at the center of the basement. If the sump pump has a cover make sure it's on and be sure not to move the test vial or drastically change the environment ( opening windows) during the test. What you want is to create and test the average environment found on a daily basis in your basement. If your radon level comes back as elevated part of the remediation will probably involve sealing the sump pump pit.

Yes, it may identify that the sump is an opening that may need sealed.

One charge for both - I don't recall exact amount, but about $40, not $80. You should place both bottles in the same room, a short distance apart. This reduces the possibility of a misreading of the ambient radon level.

The instructions say 2 ft off the floor and at least 3 ft from the wall. From the wall - can it be up to ft to still get an accurate reading? Just the way it sets up!

Answer - YES. In order to provide valid test results, the test must be performed under closed house conditions. Close all windows and doors for a least 12 hours prior to testing and keep them closed except for normal entry and exit. DO NOT OPERATE - Fans, whole house fans and fireplaces. Place the PRO-LAB Radon detectors in the lowest livable level of your home away from drafts, vents, doors and windows. Do not place the detectors in the following areas: Kitchen, laundry room, closets, direct sunlight or near any heat source. Read the installation instruction before starting the test. Please fill out all information on the enclosed card and mail ASAP after doing the test in the prepaid envelope.

I don't think you would get a true response because it says that it needs to be closed and no air movement to get a true response

                                              By|May 6, 2023

As long as you maintained EPA protocol "closed house" conditions, it would not have a dramatic effect on the test.

                                                By|May 4, 2023

I would hold off painting in the room until the test was finished - mainly because the paint fumes could possibly skew the test results. But your best bet is to call their customer service department and ask the experts. The toll-free number is included in the kit.

STOP!!!!! Do not even consider buying this product as it is a total rip-off. You buy it from HD for $14, then have to pay $40 for PRO-LB to process it - but PRO-LAB never gives you any results. There is no response from PRO-LAB customer service - IT IS A TOTAL SCAM.

Using this test gave us peace of mind that our basement has low levels (undectable in one case) of radon and dosn't need mitigation.
