Q:Will this work on a threaded Diesel fuel system?

    Answer This Question

A:  I'm not sure what you mean by "work." This product is designed to be a thread locker to keep bolts and nuts from moving until they are moved by a wrench. It is not designed as a pipe thread compound to keep pipes from leaking. I would think the threads on a diesel fuel system would require a pipe sealing compound that would also be heat tolerant.

Nice alternative between the blue and the red stuff. Keeps fasteners in place securely without the need for heat to remove to threadlocker. It doesn't provide instant grip, but given 24 hours to cure, it will definitely prevent fasteners from loosening from vibration. I let it sit on a test nut & bolt for a few hours and it was still liquid and easy to unscrew. It really needs to sit overnight to lock the fastener. When disassembling the test fastener, it took about 15 Nm or 11 Lb-ft to get it to break loose. While I didn't use the primer recommended by the packaging, I did clean the fasteners well with a general purpose evaporating degreaser. It appears to have worked well in spite of my ignoring some of the instructions.

Great product. This is just the right grade of thread locker. I use lots of thread locker on my car parts. I have found that thread locker works far better than lock washers. Blue was my go to product but since trying the orange, I am making the change. I did a test with both blue and orange. Applied the same amount to each bolt, then torqued to the same tightness. I waited almost 24 hours. Found that the orange was little harder to remove than the blue. The orange thread locker created more resistance to the nut being removed. Now the blue did create resistance to the nut removal as expected, but the orange was more resistance an held better. Applicator tip allows for just right amount to be applied. On my race cars, chain saws, mowers, etc. I am an avid user of thread locker. Let's face it, a nut coming off at the wrong time (or bolt) can be very bad. Great for any thing you want to stay in place. Great for vibrating parts as well.

I'm reviewing this permatex orange threadlocker and found it to work as advertised. I however didn't use it on threads this time I had to take a push-in fitting off my snow blower carburetor to clean the screen underneath it and didn't want it vibrating loose after installing. Gave me a nice tight fit doesn't look like it'll have any problems with it. I normally do trust most permatex products to work as they say

I got this to help keep some bolts on my side by side. I have a plow for my side by side and the mount has nylon lock nuts on the bolts. The nylon isn't doing its job anymore. I think it's because of all of the vibrations. After checking some forums I came across this. I put it on the bolts that are on my plow mount and I haven't lost a nut yet so that's exactly what I was going for. It seems like it's going to hold really well but will still come off when I want it to.

Works as advertised! Better strength than Blue but easily removable. This Permatex orange is a nice compromise. The consistency is a bit more viscose than standard Loctite but still penetrates threads well. I tested it on a #8 screw, 1/4” screw and 5/16” bolt (see photo). Although the instructions say 1/4" and larger it worked fine on the smaller #8 screw and I was able to remove the nut without too much difficulty. I also tried to capture the force to remove the 5/16” nut using torque wrench. It released with less than 10Nm of force. I also liked the applicator tip. It is long and slender making easier to target the liquid exactly where you want it.

Permatex threadlocker has been around for many years and most of us remember it in either red or blue. This one comes in an orange color and is kind of midway between the red and blue. It's stronger than the blue, (package says 3 times stronger) but, unlike the red, is still removable. I tried it on a bolt and, when I put it on, it only took a drop to cover the threads. Now, one thing I found was that the warnings on the label are for real and you should use this stuff in a well ventilated area. I managed to keep it off my hands, but, a few minutes after opening the cap (It is sealed from the factory and you have to cut the nozzle tip to open.) and applying two drops of the liquid, I started sneezing. I must be very sensitive to this, because I don't remember that reaction to either the red or blue threadlocker. It could have been something unrelated, but, I am mentioning it because nothing else was open in my shop at the time and I did feel an irritation in my nose. It looks like a great product, but, you must be careful to use it with good ventilation and protective gear. Permatex even suggests, on the package, that you use "proactive equipment" when using this product. Definitely keep it away from children and don't be casual in using it. I am going to keep the package with the bottle and refer back to it when using. They also make a "Surface Prep" activator which they recommend using first. It makes the threadlock cure in 5 minutes instead of 20 and, I would imagine the full cure would be less than 24 hrs. with the prep as well. It is a great product when used properly.

Another great product from Permatex! I've used the red and blue types with great success in the past. Using this on our karts for keeping fasteners securely tight yet easily removable. The vibration from the motor and track surfaces make a tread locker mandatory for keeping the karts on the track and not having to tighten fasteners between races. A little dab and you don't worry about a loose bolt.

Thank you Permatex for making something stronger than blue but that is still removal. The treadlocker ORANGE 25210 is going to get be staple in my tool cabinet. I have a couple bolts Blue threadlocker just can’t keep tight so I’m really hoping the Orange is going to save the day. Put some on couple bolts that keep losing on my UTV and after one ride they are still good. I’ll see how well it holds up in the coming weeks. Takes a full 24 hours to cure.

It works as advertised. I installed on a 3/8" bolt.. I did not use Permatex Surface Prep activator as reading the instructions seemed to just reduce the initial set from 20 minutes to 5 minutes. After 24 hours, I then broke loose with a torque wench set at 40lbs. Advertises on Zinc covered bolts strength 30-120 in lbs. It probably would have had higher strength if I had tighten nut down on something, but I just had it screwed on bolt. It has the feel of a nylon insert nut after initial break and had to completely screw the nut off for it to spin freely. it was not a problem cleaning threads up with small wire brush.

Great Addition to the Pematex Threadlocker Family. Over several years, I have frequently used Permatex Blue and Red threadlocker, primarily for automotive and custom bicycle applications, to prevent nuts and bolts from loosening. Both of those products, have never let me down. I recently learned of the Permatex Orange threadlocker, which is meant to fall somewhat in between the red and blue; stronger than the Blue (more like the Red), but still removable (more like the Blue). Supposed to be #X stronger than Blue, good to 300ºF. My first application is on the mounting bolt nuts that attach a scope to my pellet gun, which have an annoying tendency to loosen. This was a perfect test of the Permatex Orange, which has proven to solve the problem. "Assembled" in USA
