Answer

Due to the Built In protection of the resin sidewalls only PlayStar's Resin Dock top can be used on the Premium Frame kit. If you are looking to utilize a composite lumber for your decking we would recommend PlayStar's Aluminum frame kit PS 1505. It has 12" On Center support and is ideal for wood, cedar or composite lumber. Any additional questions please let us know. Is this suitable for tidal salt water creek

Asked by Freezia June 23, 2016

Answer

We have only extensively tested our products in fresh water situations. Salt Water or "brackish" water will effect the hot dipped galvanized metal brackets and hardware. According to the American Galvanizers Association, Galvanized coatings provide considerable protection to steel immersed in sea water and exposed to salt spray. The factors that influence the corrosion of zinc in fresh water also apply to sea water. However, it is the dissolved salts (primarily sulfides and chlorides) in sea water that are the principal determinants of the corrosion behavior of zinc immersed in sea water. Given the high level of chloride in sea water, a very high rate of zinc corrosion might be expected. However, the presence of magnesium and calcium ions in sea water has a strong inhibiting effect on zinc corrosion in this type of environment. Any additional questions please let us know. We can be contacted via telephone at 1-888-PLAYSTAR (752-9782) where you will be immediately greeted by a real live voice.

Can you do these sections with only two floats if you don't need 1500lbs of floatation?

Will it survive a winter still in the lake

Answer

Normal freezing and thawing will not damage a PlayStar Dock. However, docks are left in at owner’s discretion. No dock can withstand heavy ice movement. You should consider the following factors: What has been the history of ice movement at your location? Do other dock owners in your area take their docks in or leave them out? Are there local restrictions or requirements? What kind of recreational activities take place around the dock during the winter? If you have any additional questions please let us know. We can be contacted at 1-888-PLAYSTAR (752-9782) where you will be immediately greeted by a real live voice.

Great dock for the price
As usual, the box it arrives in seems way too small - meaning there are a bunch of pieces to put together - but it goes together quite well. The only oddity is the cross member strut spacing, but again, easy enough to figure out when you just look at it. I put 2 sections together - one as a stationary piece, the other as a floating dock to accommodate a changing tide. Surprising how stable the floating section is. I was concerned 4' width might be too wobbly, but it is actually quite stable. Width is perfect for our use with a 20' pontoon boat - we drive right over the end of the dock, tie up and walk right out onto the floater. All in, the price of putting this together was a fraction of other systems on the market.
