This product is mainly used for water softener systems and claims to be useful inside the home as well, but as for a household cleaner for my red-stained toilets and bathtub, well, a Magic Eraser does just as good a job. After allowing the product to soak on a wet surface inside my toilet bowl, I then scrubbed my toilet and repeated the steps twice with this product and I still have a light red ring. I have city water that has stained all of my one year old plumbing fixtures which is quite annoying. I had hoped the Rust Out product would be the miracle I was looking for but it fell short. I used it along with a great scrub brush and a whole lot of elbow grease and finally got some of the stain lifted but not all. I'm still looking for a product that will make my tub and toilets look new again.

I received the sample of Rust Out 76 oz. Rust Remover in the mail for review. I really like this product..So far it has preformed as advertised. I have used this product in my water softener system, I followed the directions and layered 4 oz. of Rust Out between each bag of salt. I have used this product in my dishwasher with good results.. I just put the product where the soap goes and I run a complete cycle of the dishwasher. I like that it's safe to use in the toilet, tub and sinks and will not damage the finish. This products meets my expectations.

Toilet was getting rusty and black scum. Poured this into water softener and also toilet tank. Problem solved. I will now add 1/2 cut over existing salt before adding another bag each time.

The jury is out,.. I have hard water with lots of minerals. The calcium and iron effect the sinks, the toilets, the tubs and the hot tub. I followed the directions for Rust Remove Rust Out and repeated the application as the directions recommend. I'm not seeing a huge improvement over what other competitive, and easier to use products on the market achieve. There are still rust rings and marks. So it's not a miracle cure, but it does help remove some of the rust.

I hesitated to write a review too quickly because I wanted to give the Rust Remover Rust Out time to work & hopefully produce the desired results. I've used this product now over a month & its done an incredible job. We have hard water high in iron & it makes our shower floors and edges along door rails that yellow/orange color & nothing really had any effect until we used this product in our water softener. I want to emphasize READ directions COMPLETELY and USE ONLY as directed. I would suggest mixing this product in a large pail in the sink. If you get it on flooring such as wood it will harm/strip the finish. So be careful mixing, manufacturers directions must be followed for the successful application of this product & to receive the desired result. Also, don't use bottled water as it has a rather volcanic effect when mixing. Use common sense. Our showers appearance has greatly improved! I've also used it to clean up our dishwasher. Extremely happy with this product!

Very impressed with this product. I had two toilettes with black stains around the entire interior of the bowl, right at the water line. I tried bleach, no result. I tried hand scrubbing with a scrub pad, no result. I tried a razor blade, no result. I put a cup of this stuff into the bowl and let sit overnight. In the morning, I used a soft scrub brush and to my surprise, the bowls now look like new. Came across this stuff by accident and now, these bowls will get a weekly dose of this stuff!!

The Pro Products Rust Out product does a good job in removing rust stains. While I have a private/municipal water supply, occasional I do get several get several rust stains in the 3 toilets in my house. While I have used other rust removing products, but I find the Pro Products Rust Out product to be very effective in removing the rust stain streaks from the toilets when I use a green scrubbing pad. As with any chemical product, make sure to wear waterproof gloves to protect your hands and wear eye protection to protect your eyes when using the product in this fashion.

This product WORKS GREAT! We have really high levels of iron in our well water, even the three part Iron mesh filter system doesn't get it all consistently. I've used it in the toilet tank to remove the rust ring in the bowl (worked great), the inside of the tank has never looked so "Clear" either. We've also used it diluted in a spray bottle to descale the shower insert (took some scrubbing but it worked). I also used it in a diluted form through my pressure washer to get the brown off my siding from the sprinklers. One of the recommendations for use is to add 1 cup to the brine tank in my softener/iron mesh system to assist with regeneration. I will be trying that next.

This is such an amazing product! It will make rust disappear from so many things! We have rust in our water and so I put a capful into the water softener to keep rust from building up inside the softener parts. Rust will stain the inside of my water filter housing so bad I can't even see if the filter is dirty. So when I change the filter, I rinse the filter housing, then fill with water & add a capful of this. I come back 2 minutes later to a sparkling clean & clear filter housing! I rinse & clean thoroughly, then add filter & reinstall.

I have purchased Rust Out before, but not the one for cleaning water softeners. The one I had before is just a rust stain remover. Both are powder, and you have to be really cautious about breathing the fumes or the powder from them if you have any sensitivities. I cover my mouth and nose when I'm pouring them into my washer. The only thing I use them on is my washer. I have hard well water with a lot of rust in it. I think for my purposes, the one that is just a rust stain remover is better. But it could be that I just let the washer get a little worse before using the product in it. The only reason I'm not giving it a 5 star rating is that I had to actually go through the cleaning process twice to get all the stains. I think I might be better off with the liquid version, but this one does work pretty well. The best thing I've found so far anyway.

Two years ago I moved to my current residence, an older home, which is on septic and well. The previous owner installed a water softener, which appears to be about 20 years old and not maintained for at least a few months. I noticed that the iron content of the water was very high, which you could tell from both the rust stains on all of the plumbing fixtures as well as the taste to the water. I decided to use both the "green" bags of salt which have rust remover, and though it helped it was not sufficient. I then used this container of rust remover and the changes are significant. The metallic smell and taste to the water is largely gone and new fixtures installed since show no signs of rust buildup. I also like that these formulations help to remove rust buildup inside the softener itself, and I have seen progressive improvement over time. A recent water test shows no detectable levels of iron, so it seems that the problem is solved! Only note is that this stuff is a bit caustic and tends to become slightly airborne when you pour it and the salt into the softener, just be careful to not breathe it in as it's very irritable to the lungs. I therefore highly recommend this product if you have significant levels of rust or iron in your softener system.
