About This Product

The ProHandle is an ergonomically designed Back-Saver handle attachment that is added on to any straight-handled, stick tool such as a garden shovel, snow shovel, rake, mop, hoe, push broom, scrub brush, weed whacker or steam cleaner. The design helps one to work with a better, less stressful posture by reducing the need to bend which reduces the risk of back injury. 5 customized positions allow the ProHandle to work with the body's natural movement and form and are particularly helpful for those with arthritic conditions or other joint ailments. This reduces strain and injury to lower back muscles and joints while helping the body to move and lift properly in the garden, during construction, landscaping or janitorial work, or even on a boat. No tools are required. Comfortable, large, ergonomically designed knobs allow the ProHandle to be easily attached or removed and are designed for ease of use by the gloved hand of a worker or those with arthritic conditions, particularly among the Boomer population. The ProHandle is also designed to withstand repetitive shock especially when digging in snow or in the garden. Thumbscrews compress rubber inserts tightly around the tool's shaft ensuring that the side clamps bite in and remain in place even during the most rigorous work. The ProHandle is currently used by many government, state and city agencies such as the U.S. National Guard, U.S. Coast Guard, NYC Parks Dept., NY & NJ Board of Education & Botanical Gardens.

Q:can you get replacement parts? The handle part broke!

Answer This Question

A:  Not sure, mine broke also..... Didn't hold up very well.

A:  I tried to get more of these handles for about a year. The importer seems to have stopped selling them. They were initially American made and then they started making them in China and I'm guessing that that resulted in quality control problems

A:  Yes, you can get replacement parts.

Q:Does it prevent or ease carpal tunnel syndrome?

A:  Yes! And it will also save your back too!

        by|May 4, 2023

A:  It might. I had operations for carpal tunnel and did not feel any particular strain. But the most likely help is to ease stress on your back.

          by|May 4, 2023

A:  Great question. I have had a wrist operation in both hands and a trigger finger operation. The ProHandle is an ergonomically designed tool that allows your body to work using the best possible form for your hands, back, legs, etc. Carpal Tunnel occurs through repetitive motion probably over years and caused by whatever it is you do on a daily basis. What I can say about my use of the ProHandle is that it takes the stress off my hands because it allows me to use my hands differently. Typically when you dig with a shovel, your hand is "under" the shovel stick so you have to "bend over" and lift using your left hand (if you are rightly). That puts a lot of pressure on your wrist "plus" you have to lift with that wrist causing more stress. The ProHandle allows you to "reverse your position" so that instead of lifting with your left hand - you push down with your right hand like a see-saw. This works perfectly and take a ton of stress off your wrist so to answer your question - does it ease carpal tunnel? It would. Plus there is no more bending required. Remember to use the 90 degree angle for digging and lifting (snow shovel) and the 45 degree angle for pushing and pulling (mop, garden hoe, push broom). Just a great all-around tool!

A:  I would think it would "ease" carpal tunnel.

              by|May 4, 2023

A:  Yes, carpal tunnel syndrome is typically caused by repetitive motion and positioning your body in a way that is not ergonomic. From those who I know use the ProHandle in the Army Corps of Engineers (as well as myself), we use the ProHandle specifically because it puts your back and hands in a more ergonomic position. Basically, we can do more with less effort and injury. This in itself, will prevent or ease carpal tunnel on your wrists and help to prevent back pain or injury. It does for us. Hope this helps.

A:  Don't know. Give it a try. Just be mindful of it's strength (low, can easily break).

A:  Hey Gary, it states on HD.com and the ProHandle packaging, that the ProHandle will fit on straight handled stick tools from 5/8" (think house mop, garden rake) to 1 1/4" such as a steam cleaner. It won't go larger because then it would be too heavy for the lighter weight tools such as the garden rake. Most tools are 3/4" to 1" so the ProHandle will fit tools a little bit smaller or larger that the average tool. Of course, you can always go out and simply get screws a little bit longer and then that may help fit the 2" carpet wand. Give it a try. Oh, also is a great replacement handle for the weedwhacker! I have ProHandles on everything. It seems crazy not to. It sure beats taking aspirin!

I purchased this about a year ago to use with my snow shovel. The plastic lightweight handle worked really well and I was able to use it 3-4 times. I especially liked the ability to adjust to different angles and that tools weren't required. It really did make lifting and tossing snow easier. Recently, I used it again and the handle just snapped. I was really shocked because I was shoveling gently. The temperate was about 35 degrees and the shovel had been outside for several hours. There was no crack - just sudden complete failure. When it worked, it worked well. I'm very disappointed that it failed after so little use. I tried to contact the manufacturer, but couldn't find who made it.

This does exactly what I wanted. I've attached it to a Greenworks extended reach edge trimmer. The colors almost match as well. it gives me a much better grip at a better angle for my back. The Greenworks edge trimmer isn't built very durably, so this is not a weak link. If it were a durable tool, and you're strong you could break this. (It would need to be steel)

easy to install on any shaft tool. I used it on a hoe to mix cement and it really helped by not having to bend down. Put up a rock wall with blocks and rocks this made the mixing a breeze.

“The ProHandle is awesome! I am 6’6” and weigh 350. I am in construction for a living and bending and digging all day long just kills my back. All the tools seem so short for me but the ProHandle allows me to dig without having to bend so far over. This isn’t something I do on weekends like the average dude, I do this all day long! We picked up a few more for the job site cause guys were trying to take mine! What-A-Relief!!

Fantastic Product!! I would recommend the ProHandle to both professional and homeowner. As a professional, we used dozens of ProHandles to assist with the US government revitalization of the Long Island beaches after Hurricane Sandy hit. The submitted picture shows the trenches we dug with the ProHandle. The area was too delicate for the machinery we had. We used the ProHandle on a variety of tools, rakes, shovels and it always exceeded our expectations; great leverage and strength. Great company too! They sponsored some of the clean-up and donated ProHandles to the efforts. My ProHandle is still going strong after 4 years! Buying more!

Three months ago I would have recommended this product. However, I cannot recommend a product that, when it breaks WITHIN THE WARRANTY, the manufacturer/distributor will NOT RESPOND to emails to three different accounts they list and a voicemail left on their phone. I was using the shovel in December, leaned it against the house, and for some reason, it slid off and landed on the ground. The handle broke into two pieces. It was about 28 degrees outside, and the shovel was being used lightly if at all (I was mostly using a snow blower). When it worked, the ProHandle worked well. But why would a company like this simply refuse to respond to any way I try to contact them about their handle breaking while within warranty? It sounds like they don't want to stand behind their product. Buyer beware!

Had 2x of these for years
I want more. These are very durable and the easy fold-down mechanism make it easier to store the tool you attach them to. Are they discontinued? Can anyone identify an alternate source? I have neighbors who watch me shovel with this and want one. I haven't seen them in stock for a year or more. I'll buy spares as soon as I can find some. I think my originals were about $15-16, and $20 is still a fair price for these. Highly recommend.

                                      Broke after third use
I bought this as a recommendation from The Wirecutter, and I did enjoy using it while it lasted, and it was a huge back saver, but the 1st and 2nd time I used it was for 5 minutes of snow shovelling, and a year and a half later, I used it this last week for about 30 minutes of snow shoveling. Not too heavy, but a lot of sidewalk when the handle snapped off the shaft.

Great idea. Works great when spreading mulch. I expect to use it a lot for snow removal. Believe it or not, I also put it on my vacuum wand. This leverage helps so much. I wonder what other applications can be improved.
