How do you open the thing to empty it

Asked by: Phil
After you unscrew the base, there are two tabs across from one another. I found that if you focus on one and bend it into the center far enough, the cone base will partially deform and with a gentle pull you can get one side loose. Then move to the other tab and do the same thing. The second tab will be much easier. Also, if there are some live ones in there, put the whole trap in the freezer for an hour or so. That will kill them. Best to let the trap get back to room temperature before trying to remove the cone. Freezing makes the plastic brittle and you could break the tabs.

First, the bait wears out in a few days and you have to buy more. Second, it is difficult to remove the cone from the main trap area so that you can dump out the dead yellow jackets. There might be an easier way to remove the cone, but the instructions just say "remove". Here is a tip - if there are a few live ones in the trap and you want to empty it, put the trap in the freezer for an hour. Then, remove it, empty the frozen insects into the toilet, and flush!

A yellow jacket is not a wasp or hornet? I was fooled. I thought "yellow jacket" was just a slang term, but apparently it really is a different insect. One week after placing this trap with attractant by our shed, and we have a little construction happening. This is just another reminder to always use your Home Depot account to make every purchase, because you don't have to worry about finding receipts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy with the Rescue Yellowjacket Trap. ... Happy with the Rescue Yellowjacket Trap. We had one or two yellowjackets bothering us when we sat on our deck. I bought the trap at Home Depot based on a recommendation from the HD associate. Installation was a snap using some old picture wire. We have collected about a dozen yellowjackets each day for the first two days the trap was in use. I am very pleased with it's performance. I think perhaps the low-rated reviews are from people expecting to trap bees or wasps. So far, I've only had yellowjackets in the trap.

Bought five of them for placement around our property (half acre yard, with a couple mature fruit trees in the backyard). In the space of a month, each one has caught probably a 100+ yellow jackets each. Didn't even realize there were so many around (probably cleared out the neighbors' ones as well). We have young children, and they're terrified of the little buggers. Plan on putting them out and baiting them earlier in the Spring next year so as to get ahead of the problem going forward.

I've had this yellow jacket trap about 1 week and it has worked very well for me. I had a nest of them in the wall of my house, I hung this trap in a tree 25 feet from the hole they were leaving the nest from. Within a couple days the trap was nearly full and I haven't seen any more bees entering or exiting the hole in the wall. I will definitely be using these traps again next spring to eliminate yellow jacket nests around my property.

The yellowjackets are filling up the container, and the bumblebees are starting to return to pollinate flowers. Highly effective! I've had it 2 weeks, and just replaced the insect attractant. The container is filling more slowly this time because there are fewer yellowjackets. We can eat outside in peace. Yay!
