        ridged table saw
I bought this saw because my dad's old metal saw was really to hard to figure out (1970). or before. the first one the knob striped out .took it back. the second has now striped out. the knows are all plastic. so if your not very careful they break. was trying to lock the blade back in after changing it. and the plastic lock broke. not a chance I would ever buy one again. it might do okay on very small projects but on big ones. bought a blade for cedar. and it could barely cut it. I five this saw a thumbs down. if I could get what I paid for it back. I would buy a commercial table saw .

I love this saw. It is easy to move/store and a joy to use.
I love this saw. It is easy to move/store and a joy to use. Folding and unfolding are amazingly simple procedures (although it does take a minute to first lower the riving knife and store the blade guard & anti kickback assembly). Once folded up it is roughly 26”x 26” x44” if you include all the handles that poke out, but it looks much smaller. The top surface is 21"x26.5”, and the main body is about 14 inches tall. I definitely considered getting the much heavier R4560 model, but I will need to roll my saw from my garage to the back patio every time I use it, and the larger wheels on the R4550 make that a lot easier. Also, all the wall space in my garage is already pretty much spoken for, but there is a double door and a single door; when folded, this compact saw easily fits in the space between the doors. Ridgid has a lot of experience building electric motors for their famous garage vacuums that run efficiently and more quietly than most so I expect similar, long-term performance from this saw. The dust collection system is fantastic, but be sure to plug the vacuum and the saw into two different electrical circuits or you might blow the breaker. This saw arrived perfectly aligned to the rip fence. The riving knife is also dead-on. Even the scales for the fence are perfect (use the black scale when the fence is attached to the black pegs and the orange scale when the fnece is attached to the orange pegs). One concern I have is that the miter gauge I received has some play in the slots (see attached video). I am accustomed to using the miter gauge to guide my material when cross cutting so I need it to stay true. I am also a little concerned about the auxiliary, flip-down fence. I don’t understand why the auxiliary fence is not parallel to the main fence. The gap between the fence and the auxiliary fence is much wider on the exit side than near the entrance which seems counterintuitive. I highly recommend watching the video of the assembly that is included in the Home Depot listing; however, also use the Operator’s Manual to follow along because the guy in the video leaves out some important steps. The manual also includes instructions for aligning and adjusting the saw and instructions for building a push stick, auxiliary miter gauge facing, a push block, a feather board, and a cut off gauge. I have used table saws while helping friends out, but this is the first one of my own. When I started building stuff I purchased a 14” radial arm saw and built a custom table around a 12’ section of industrial roller table. However, it was destroyed in a flood. I have been getting by with a skill saw and a cut-off saw for almost a decade, but there is a bit of work to do on my new house so I ordered this table saw to make it easier.

Great mid-range portable table saw. Onboard storage for all accessories. Geared fence.
Check out my video overview of the features of this saw. See video link below. It will answer questions about how portable it is, how the on-board storage works, and how to adjust the fence in the 3 primary positions. For a mid-range saw, with a built in stand, you can't go wrong here. The stand is integral to the unit. It cannot be detached. That's OK. It works very well in both the storage and operating positions. Stored on edge, it takes up little room in my storage shed. It should work well in many utility trailers. This is an upgrade for me. I started with a non-portable saw I bought a few years ago. I came to dislike many features, especially the fence. On this Ridgid R4550, the fence is a joy. It can be a bit confusing because it has 3 main positions: 1) Left, 2) Right, 3) Right-extended, using the swing-piece as a kind of table extension. This is best seen in the video. Most importantly, the fence works on a geared knob that adjusts both sides. There is no skew like you get with "snap on" fences on cheaper models. The swing-extension on the fence also can act as a close-in fence that allows the safety features (saw guard) to work effectively. You just subtract 2" from the fence gauge. Otherwise, there are no surprises: this is a standard table saw. It has a miter accessory with an appropriate groove in the table. All standard safety features are available. The throat plate has adjustments for leveling, and it is important to know that the standard provided plate will not accept a dado blade. Assembly took me 45 minutes. I took my time. There are no surprises. The instructions were beautiful. If you expect to operate a table saw, then you are qualified to assemble it. I spent another 30 minutes just trying adjustments, from blade angle to fence adjustments. I encourage you to try the various fence positions to understand them. Based on position, you also have two different measuring gauges to properly understand. Overall, I'm very happy with this saw. My old one goes in the recycling bin. It isn't even worth selling. This saw is so much better and safer. Made in Taiwan

          lots of great features
I love Rigid tools and this Table Saw is no exception. Assembly out of the box took about an hour. It was simple, instructions were easy to follow, and it went together with ease. I did watch a video on the Home Depot app to give some tips on assembly. The stand is easily portable, but one main caution, make sure it is latched when you move it. Mine was a little loose so I have to make sure that it is latched correctly. It does move easy and then set up is quite simple. Unlatch it, by pressing the latch with your foot, and guide it to full height. Once in place, plug it in and get to work. The on/off switch has a safety cover on it which is nice. A couple of nice features: the fence is simple to move from side to side, as well as, to expand to your desired cut. The blade height is also easy to adjust and on the same mechanism, you can adjust for miter cuts. When cutting there is a housing over the blade to keep your hand out, and the anti-kickback system is an added precaution. There is a lot of power in this saw. The 15amp motor is perfect to handle any cut. When cutting wood, it goes through smooth with a great cut from the 40 tooth blade. There is also a tool that enables you to push the wood through so you don't get too close to the blade. This saw is built for safety. Another thing I like about this saw is that because of the portability, it is well thought out with holding all your accessories on board for transport. They are conveniently placed on the sides. I also like the cord wrap that keeps the cord out of the way when moving. This Rigid saw is amazing and I look forward to many years of use from it

          Just unboxed & assembled R4550.
Build quality is rock-solid. Saw bevel came in just a hair off vertical at the 0 degree stop. Adjustment was easy. Fence, blade & table are dead straight & square with each other. Miter gauge, unfortunately, is not. Love everything else.

The quality of the saw is good, felt like I...
The quality of the saw is good, felt like I had to do to much tweaking to make everything cut properly for square and precise cuts. The backguage was the biggest disappointment. The rack and pinion works great but was more than 1/8 off to the scales. No instructions on how to adjust it had to figure out on my own

            Rigid vs DeWalt
I couldn't decide between this saw $379 and the DeWalt DWE7485 $299. So I bought both and compared. The Dewalt is better made. The rack and pinion is smoother and more accurate wo adjustment. However the 8-1/4" blade is limiting so don't plan on a specialty blade or dados. The Ridgid (aka Delta) has a better stand, uses std 10" blade, can dado w proper plate, and has a 32.5" rip. For for these reasons, the Ridgid delivers a better value in my opinion. But you can't go wrong either.
