(What's this)
Ridgid R84730B 18 Volt Drywall Cut -Out Tool – As with most Ridgid 18 volt Tools, this is the item number for a bare tool, (No battery or Charger) included…This tool is fairly new to the Ridgid 18 volt line of tools…This drywall cur-out tools offers the same features as other manufactures of cordless drywall cur-out tools…The most impressive feature is the warranty, Ridgid indicates this is a “No Hassel” warranty for three (3) years the tool will be replaced or repaired…If this tool is registered with Ridgid Power Tools within 90 days after purchase the tool qualifies for the “LSA” Lifetime Service Agreement, meaning Ridgid will replace any part of the tool that is defective or broken…I was informed the only batteries that qualify for the Lifetime Service Agreement are batteries that are included with a tool or batteries that are purchased with a charger, commonly called a starter kit…Single batteries purchased in plastic clam shell package, are only covered for the initial warranty period…So, if you have other Ridgid 18 volt tools and this is the tool platform you intend to keep using, always purchase tools that include batteries as a means of obtaining additional batteries…Individual batteries will cost at least $50.00, a ½” driver drill, charger and (1) or (2) batteries will cost about $159.00...That means the “LSA” will apply to the batteries and charger…I tested this tool cutting ½” and 5/8” drywall, I didn’t have the opportunity to cut cement board…The tool performed as indicated, intended and expected without any problems and equal to all other drywall cut-out tools manufactured…The pro or con to purchase this tool would be the brand of the tools and battery platform already owned and used every day…That said if I owned numerous Ridgid 18 volt tools, I would not hesitate to purchase this Drywall Cut-Out Tool...

(What's this)
This Ridgid drywall cutout tool seems to be a solid worker. First, the good: It is relatively lightweight and easy to maneuver. The depth of cut adjustment is a tool-free design with a simple flip lever to change the shoe position and the shoe - when removed from the tool - has a built-in wrench for bit changes (a very nice feature). The switch is recessed in the tool to prevent accidental activation and still manages to be easily accessible from multiple hand positions on the tool. The belt clip is sturdy and highly functional. The not-so-good: The user manual doesn't have even a listing of included accessories or tool diagram, so it took me a minute to figure out that the depth shoe also functioned as a wrench. Although it is in-line with the industry standard, there is no dust extraction/containment on this tool. Overall: A capable tool that will get the job done without any bells or whistles.

(What's this)
I had always wanted one of these tools cut out electrical boxes. I opted to try this one and after a little practice got better with it. I had always cut my boxes out with a saw before hanging the rock. This tool cut the time by 5 or 6 times. It was very fast and efficient. There is however a learning curve as can be seen in my photos. This tool is well worth the expense if you do a lot of drywall work. The only negatives I had were: 1. there is no battery or charger included(you must purchase another tool, which is cheaper than buying a battery and charger separately) or buy the battery and charger. 2. the tool did not come with a wrench to tighten the bit.

(What's this)
This is a good tool. The lack of an on board storage for the wrench, and lack ofdust management brought down the score for me. Tackling a drywall project is a task that produces a lot of dust, and dust management seems to be a major safety push the past couples of year. I would have loved to see an attachment or feature that reduces that amount of dust produced. To me best features are: the depth adjustment guide, which is easy to use, and the volume of the tool. It is a lot quieter than my other speed saws, when it ia on but not in contact with the work surface the sound was about 70db when I measured it.. I used this cut out tool on 1/2" thick drywall, and it cut just fine. This has an LED and it shuts off, soon as the saw ahuts down, 2 seconds or so after you turn it off. To adjust the depth, simple raise the Lever and raise, lower, or remove the guard. This comes with a 1/4" and a 1/8" collet as well as 2 bits. The handle is comfortable ,to me. On the side of the tool where the name is I feel that an onboard storage could have been placed there for the wrench to adjust the collet nut. Speaking of which, the spindle lock was easy ro use and worked as expected.

I had to cut out some outlets in drywall and this worked well. The no tools needed is nice to change the bit out. The depth ring is toothed to lock in at small depths, and is easyTo adjust with just a flip of a leaver adjust and lock in place. The on/ off switch is in a convenient location. The tool is well balanced and not to heavy if you use a smaller battery.

This Ridgid drywall cut out tool is just what you need in your toolbox. The 28,000 RPM motor and 18 volt battery have more than enough power to get the job done. Perfect for cutting out electric outlets. The tool only weighs 1.9 pounds so your hands don't get tired and the rubber grips keep it from slipping in your hands . The Lifetime Free Parts and Free Service make it a no brainer for buying Ridgid tools. I own several and have never had a problem since they are very dependable. I highly recommend this one.

Seeds Program Review
(What's this)
First, with their 'guaranteed for life' program [but be careful, it's getting tougher to register a product], Ridgid has to be considered a viable competitor to "Big Red" [whose 'mail-in-service', I think, is now 'best-in-class']. My history with many of their tools ... at least 18 over the past seven years ... has been good. Okay, this product. What I like is the interchangeable collets [1/8 and 1/4"] ... with its high rpm, you might consider alternative uses vis-a-vis Dremel and flush-trim router bits! And there's no 'right side up' with those collets. The wrench and foot are one in the same. Good job. The pencil point light is adequate. What I don't like ... it's heavy and, with an arthritic medium-large hand, I find it hard to grasp and hold at 8.5" circumference,;a 1/4" would have made a big difference.

Another great tool from Ridgid, very easy to use and setup. The tool can be as accurate as you are steady. I myself find the tool easier to control in the up right position. However practice makes perfect. I now have nine Ridgid tools and I'm very happy with all of them. This tool makes working with dry wall much easier. This tool is very compact and easy to store in any tool box.

(What's this)
Compact tool provides a neatish cut as promised but I found that two hands are necessary to achieve that. The tool can be operated with one hand but the outcome is not nearly as neat. Cleverly the wrench to unlock and lock the collet nut is a part of the depth gauge. Setting up and adjusting the tool to suit the work is easy enough and there are both quarter inch and eighth inch collects included together with two eighth inch drywall bits. The LED light is very useful on this tool, providing the right amount of illumination in the right place. The depth gauge does mark the drywall if it is resting on the material during cutting. I'm not sure that it is any neater of faster than my usual method of drilling a hole and cutting out the drywall with a padsaw but it definitely needs less muscle power and with a lot of holes to be cut in drywall and a limited number of other materials this tool will prove its worth.

It does not the ability to make a detailed cut as I had hoped. For rough and quick cut, it is perfect. Still no regrets in the purchase.
