Q:I bought a combo years ago that came with a drill and impact driver, along with two 27WH batteries and charger. Can I use those batteries with this? I don't expect them to last all day, as I only need to make a few cuts here and there.

Most useless warranty in the industry.
I purchased several Rigid cordless tools and batteries. Registered all according to instructions within a week of purchase. Less than a year later one battery failed. Goid luck if this happens to you. The warranty claims process is so convoluted and involved it is nearly impossible to navigate. Also the terms and condition nearly assure that no one will be able to meet the requirements. And Presto- your power tool is useless because you couldn’t get through the Rigid Customer Service Maze.

              Sweet one-handed cutting
I already have a corded and cordless reciprocating saw. They work great, but sometimes you just have a situation that calls for a smaller saw. Or maybe you need to hold what you are cutting with one hand and saw with the other. This RIDGID reciprocating saw does the job, and does it well. This package was tool only, but that's okay as I already had compatible batteries. It did come with one multi-purpose blade. It measures about 14.5 inches without the blade and battery; about 20" with the blade and a 4Ah battery. It feels good in your hand right off the bat. There is a safety switch above the trigger. A bright LED light comes on as soon as you pull the trigger and stays on for about 15 seconds after you release the trigger. I put it to the test with a bunch of cuts I had to make in 1/4 inch plywood. It performed flawlessly. It was easier to make the cuts and hold the boards, just as I had hoped. I would recommend using the smaller battery if you have one. The 4Ah battery did add a little more weight which is noticeable with each additional cut. Free up some weight if you can. The RIDGID 18V SubCompact Brushless Cordless One-Handed Reciprocating Saw makes a great addition to my tool collection and especially pairs nicely with some of my other RIDGID tools.

New king of the one-handed recip saws.
This new Ridgid is very impressive. I recently tested 3 one-handed reciprocating saws (DeWalt, Makita, Milwaukee) and this new Ridgid has even more power and grace than those. In that test (see video) each saw was timed as it cut nail embedded wood, cut mild steel, and handed copper tubing. The new Ridgid is even faster than the previous winner, the Milwaukee Hackzall (brushed). The 7/8-inch stroke Ridgid powers through material and was several seconds faster than the field. The Ridgid is about same weight as the Milwaukee and it fits nicely in the hand…well balanced. It does an OK job controlling vibration during cuts and the LED lights up the cut area nicely. The only shortcoming I found is the bulky battery design, which is true across the Ridgid line. The other manufactures are coming out with smaller lighter batteries the Ridgid has yet to join the trend. I would like to see Ridgid slim down theirs as well. Unless you are going to spend your whole day doing demo there really is no reason to bring a larger 2 handed saw. This little guy works amazing. I have not tested it against the Milwaukee 18v brushless Fuel but right now it’s the king. I give it a strong “B+” grade.

              great working tool
I recently received the RIDGID - RIDGID 18V SubCompact Brushless Cordless One-Handed Reciprocating Saw (Tool Only). I'm very happy with the performance of this tool. To remove or replace a blade is very easy. I'm impressed with the power of this small easy to hold reciprocating saw. I cut threw 3" of a 2x6 with easy. The tool is not very heavy and I was able to handle it well. I would differently recommend this saw.

Super handy lightweight & ergonomic reciprocating saw for hard-to-reach spots
What a handy saw this is! It is light enough to hold overhead for extended periods, but still gets the job done. My other Ridgid reciprocating saw weighs 6.7 lb. It is awesome, but I can only hold it up high and in uncomfortable positions for so long. Whereas, this one goes anywhere because it is cordless, easy to maneuver, ergonomic and lightweight. And yes, it uses all the exact same batteries as other Ridgid power tools.

Easy to handle single handed saw
For those interested in country of origin, this product was made in CHINA. Needed a saw that was light weight, easy to handle, and electric, preferably battery powered, to use around the property in maintenance work. Was using a conventional reciprocating saw but was clumsy and really needed two hands to operate. This saw solved my issues. Am able to cut small logs easily for kindling using one hand. Works the same way for pruning low hanging tree limbs and shrubs. Great to only have to purchase the tool, not a combo kit, as it saves money. Like the snap lock feature on the nose for the blade as you have no tool to lose.

              Battery issues
So every tool, with the exception of the reciprocating saw, works great. The batteries do not fit the saw. I tried both and neither one fit. Found this out just as I needed the saw too. My suggestion is as soon as you get it, open it up in the car/truck and make sure the batteries fit all the tools.

                Great quality
This Rigid tool set puts the other sets I have bought over the years to shame. The quality and the feel of these tools is excellent; noticeably better than similar and even more expensive products on the market. The 4Ah and 2Ah batteries are a great idea and the tools feel balanced with both. Love the multi-tool; most sets don’t have this so a good bonus.

This Ridgid cordless tool set is perfect! Having the four tools (Impact Driver, Hammer Drill Multi-Tool and Reciprocating Saw) in one set with interchangeable batteries is the perfect way to go. Hubby says they are "heavy" -- not in the sense of weight, but in that they are beefy and strong, not cheap tools. He's quite happy with the set. Having the lifetime warranty is beyond compare. The set is right now gathered into the carrying bag and in the back of the Escalade. Tomorrow's project list includes working with a neighbor installing a new awning on our camper - a two-man job. Tools are ready for use.
