Not suitable for sound attenuation
I just purchased it and will be returning it to the store. This product has minimal to no impact on reducing the noise level. Noise level exceeding 80 dBA is damaging to hearing. The Rigid vacuum 16/60 without attachments exceeds 85dBA.

False labeling
The store shelf says "muffler", the label on packaging says "noise muffler". This e-mail describes it as a "diffuser" . It does diffuse the exhaust so your shop vac doesn't blow things around behind you.
It does absolutely nothing to reduce noise which is what a "muffler" is supposed to do. I use my vac on woodworking power tools so it runs constantly and adds to the noise of the tools. It works great as a "diffuser" but it does not serve the purpose it's advertised to do. I still have a loud shop vac.

Poor engineering
Home Depot ought to refund every customer who purchased this, along with any Rigid Wet/Dry vac due to the terrible engineering and design of the exhaust outlet. Absolutely unacceptable.

Poor Manufacturing Quality
Tried to decide if this RIDGID Diffuser/Muffler that looks like a piece of plastic tubing with some foam stuffed in it was worth paying $13.67 + tax. The product description says "DURABLE BUILD Made from rugged plastic and dense foam. High Impact Material-Made with durable materials that resist dents or damage from everyday use." So I thought maybe it's worth it, so I bought it. Took the shrink wrap off and was disappointed to see a couple of holes or breaks in the plastic that look like defects in manufacturing. I don't know if this will affect the performance of the diffuser, but I wonder if the plastic will break even more down the line as I start to use it and air is forced through it on a constant basis. This shouldn't have passed quality control. Judging from what I got, it doesn't look like it's of durable build, rugged plastic, or able to resist dents/damage. I went back to HD to look at other RIDGID diffusers in stock to see if they had the same holes. None had the holes that mine has. I would return to HD for an exchange, but I lost the receipt.

It works
This reduces the sound of the exhaust air and diffuses it so it doesn’t blow things around behind the vac. To set your expectations, connect the vac hose to the exhaust with no attachment. You should notice a significant decrease in flow noise. This is about what the diffuser will do for sound muffling. It can’t do anything for the motor noise. I have the 4 gallon vac and I don’t have a problem with accessory storage. I put the tubes on the opposite side of the caddy with the utility nozzle on one, the crevice tool in the next slot, and the dust brush under the diffuser.

Poor Design
As another reviewer mentioned, whoever designed the shop vacuum with the pipe caddy where it is, made it so you cannot attach the muffler at utilize the caddy at the same time.
Shocked that this oversight made it past the assembly line.
I own a construction co. and have tried all other vacs but Rigid is my preferred vac.
The muffler is a must for me, so this is no small problem.
Just bought my third Rigid vac with the previous vacs lasting over 10 yrs.
I guess I’m stuck now trying to modify the vac by relocating the caddie.
I’m also disappointed with Rigids response to the previous review about this issue.
Instead of stating the obvious that the muffler and caddie were poorly designed, they just brush it off as “well... other reviewers are happy with it”

Attachments are not universal with Rigid
I have a model WD-4070 and need a carpet attachment with rolling wheels but the one you sell is not compatible with my model. How can this be? Your accessories need to be universal.

However, you will need to have an adapter to make it work with your WD4070 and that is included on the 3-piece adapter set (VT1755). You may get this through Home Depot stores or online. Blocks Caddie Access
Incredibly poor design and product management oversight to miss this. You can’t remove center mounted attachments in the rear caddie when the optional diffuser (Ridgid model VT2525) is attached on the exhaust port. No one at Ridgid thoroughly tested the redesigned product, they left that to the customers.
