How do you clean this muffler or do you have to buy a replacement filter. Gordon
Asked by: Gordie
As to cleaning this filter - seems to be a reasonably rare event. Given it’s construction, I’ve just held it under running water & it seems to clean up fine.

Does this affect the suction power of the Vacuum?

I am trying to use 20 feet of extension wands on the other end and wondering if this should be removed to get better suction from a long range.

I will try to remember to measure the Dbl level with an app on my phone to give the real difference and send an update. But it is much quitter to the extent that you don't mind leaving it on for extended periods while working. Didn't need the extension for my application so therefore did not extend the size of the vacuum either. It may reduce the suction a little.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as Advertised and then some I purchase this unit with the Ridgid WD4070 because my last shop vac (15 yrs old) spit out dust from the exhaust port, which is not good when detailing vehicles. I also wanted to muffle the exhaust a bit. I measured the sound level of my unit using a sound meter (at 3’) and the exhaust was 91db without the muffler and 83 db with the muffler. So, while it will not reduce the sound by ½ as someone mention here, it does reduce the sound as advertised. Note: The packaged does not say how much it reduces sound, but that it reduces the sound, so it works as advertised. I wonder how many of the reviewers that said there was no reduction in sound actually measured the sound levels. Oh, it does block the tool storage a bit. I am satisfied and glad I purchased this unit because it reduced sound levels and keeps dust from flying all over the place, which defeats the purpose of vacuuming.

It does make a small difference in the noise level but the vacuum is still very loud, ear protection loud. Home Depot people. Could you get the manufactures of the shop vac's you sell to put the noise DB level on the box.

Can’t tell if it actually catches dust that were to escape otherwise or dust that is being pushed around outside the vacuum. Extension did not fit my ridgid shop vac. Makes odd whistling noise when attachment is flush with ground which hadn’t occurred before.

This is definitely not worth putting on, let alone having to pay for it.FYI- I put this on my Rigid, SNR, 14 Gal wet/dry vac, that I also bought from Home Depot (the Rigid vac is great).Tim O. Just got this muffler home and hooked it up to my 4.5 gallon Ridgid Shopvac and there was a negligible difference in the sound output. Wearing earplugs like we all should be doing is the answer on the one . Save your money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Title of this item is a bit misleading... In looking on YouTube for more information on this 'muffler', and in reading the reviews here on Home Depot, I really think they should change this from a 'Noise Reduction Muffler', to a Diffuser. Running the exhaust air from the various vacuums through this unit, does not do much in the line of reducing the noise (one video I watched the guy had a DB meter and showed 0.2 reduction in noise), but this 'muffler' does do a good job of diffusing the exhaust air. Most would think that this is a low priority item, but think of what the exhaust is going to do in a wood working shop... The exhaust air coming straight out of the back of the vacuum, stirs up all sorts of dust when it gets even near-by anything that has dust on it. The 'diffuser' does a pretty good job of breaking up that forceful air stream, helping to keep dust on your equipment so it can be vacuumed up, and not blown into the air, making you breathe the fine dust... screwing up a wet finish on something that you just built etc... Well worth the money as a 'Diffuser", but about worthless as a Noise Reduction Muffler - if you ask me (and that is what these reviews are all about - TRUE?? LOL

It does a nice job of taking the "edge" off the sound of the running vacuum, but I'd still recommend wearing some sort of hear protection if you are going to be running the vacuum for an extended period of time.
