Q:what do you mean by reversing or flipping the blade over to extend life??.....rotational movement against concrete shortens the blade and is considered worn out when the hole at either end of the blade is reached. please explain

A:Â One side of the blade is always in contact with the concrete sidewalk which causes it to wear slightly more than the other side. Flipping the blade evens it out. As the blade wears down it gets progressively shorter, you should not use the blade after it reaches the holes punched into the blades.Â

A:Â Ryobi's comment is not factual! The metal blade will wear down, regardless which edge is hitting the ground/concrete first, or second. The leading edge and the trailing of the blade will wear down equally. And I've gone through 2 of these. They WEAR FAST.

Q:I have a P2300 edger which uses a 9" blade. Previous Ryobi replies on this product say that the 8" blade will work. How is that possible? Won't the cutting depth be reduced by 1", making it useless? Thanks.

Soft metal
Apparently the blade is not hardened. My Expand-it Edger is 2 days old. That is only one tank of fuel. The blade is worn down to the first shoulder already. I know that the Appalachian soil in N GA is tough, but... ? I will need to look for a hardened blade in a couple of months at this rate.
