A: It all depends on usage, minerals in the water, etc. No prescribed time!! Indicator may include when the mister-heads stop performing well (spit water rather than mist), change in mist pressure,...... At that time there will likely be a need to clean the mister-heads too.

A: Great question Karen! Thanks for your question on the Ryobi PMCF009 In-Line Misting Filter. The inline filter is an accessory that is added at the hose hook up for the misting systems. So where you would normally connect a garden hose you would connect the filter there then attach the garden hose to the other end of the inline filter. I hope this helps! - Eve

A: No, lake water is unfiltered and will clog the filter in short order. This filter is for tap water. Mike

A: Hello JW75, this RYOBI PMCF009 In-Line Misting Filter is an accessory that is added at the hose hook up for the misting systems. So where you would normally connect a garden hose you would connect the filter there then attach the garden hose to the other end of the inline filter. I hope this helps. -Eve

Q:will this filter reduce the amount of calcium getting into the system?

A: After using this filter this past summer (2021), I removed it to find lots of calcium passing through as if it were a fine powder. We have a small filter screen further along the line post-filter that was literally solid with calcium "powder."

A: It should as that is part of its intended purpose (filtering the water). But invariable expect to check and clean the mister heads and clean them periodically along with the filter too.

Ryobi is excellent; 4 stars is for the the maker...

Ryobi is excellent; 4 stars is for the the maker of the product, as the product can only reduce a very small amount of calcium, especially in Phx Az, as we have very hard water.

Don't bother

I have been a Ryobi customer for years I have been a contractor for 16 years and I am finding out that Ryobi is more worried about new tools coming out rather than supporting what they sold. For example, this filter or the replacement spray nozzles. Home Depot doesn't carry replacement parts, Direct tools Doesn't carry them either. So try to get parts from Ryobi and that's also a dead end.

clogged after only 1 hour of use.

My old filter lasted many years of light use, and was still working, but I thought it was time to replace. This Ryobi completely stop passing water after about 1 hour of use. I put the old one back on and it is still working.
