I've never attempted to remove carpet on my own; I usually use workmen sent by a carpet dealer. I've also never considered using a utility knife at all in this way Using this knife for your project would probably depend on the density and thickness of the carpet being removed. The casing for the knife is very good. The blades are replaceable; so if one breaks, it can easily and quickly be replaced with another of the same (basically all utility blades are interchangeable) type. There are knives specifically intended for cutting and removing carpet material. If yours is quite thick, you may want to consider one specifically for that purpose.
