Hello Madbad,
Thank you for taking the time to share your Ring Step Light experience with us. We are pleased to hear that your interactions with our support team have been pleasant. We understand the importance of having the batteries last in your home’s environment, so these support calls are not necessary. Rest assured, we are here to provide you with information to resolve your concern.Â
To get the most life out of your batteries, Ring recommends using standard alkaline batteries in your Ring Smart Lighting devices. Rechargeable batteries will work in your Ring Step Light, though they may not last as long as alkaline batteries. Heavy-duty batteries should not be used in the Ring device. Lithium batteries will also work in your Ring Step Light and are recommended when the weather is cold. The specific type of battery our Ring Smart Lights use is called a Bottom Top 18650 3.7V Lithium-ion Battery. Here is a helpful article that elaborates on some factors that could be causing the unnecessary battery drainage: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360041789191-Troubleshooting-Unexpected-Battery-Drain-in-Ring-Solar-Smart-Lights. Customers can expect about a year of battery life when they keep the brightness at 50% and have the lights activate in 30 second intervals.Â
We invite you to reach out at https://community.ring.com/if any additional information is needed regarding the Step Light. Ring Community is our first peer-to-peer community forum, giving our customers the ability to help one another and share their feedback and experiences with Ring.
Thank you, Jamila with Ring.
