Q:Does this have a dawn to dusk option rather than motion sensing on/off?
    by|Nov 2, 2021

    Answer This Question

A:  Hello McBride, Great question. Light Schedules are a feature in your Ring App that allows you to have control over the timeframe of your Ring Smart Lighting schedules. With Light Schedules, you can set separate schedules such as morning and night or utilize the built in Dusk to Dawn to have your lights illuminated at a low lumen level at daybreak and sunset. Schedules can be created at both the individual device and group level. Here is a helpful article that elaborates on light schedules: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360041290112-Controlling-Your-Smart-Solar-Lights-with-Light-Schedules. The options for keeping lights on after a motion event are 1 minute, 5 minutes, 10 minutes and 15 minutes in order to conserve battery life on your Solar Steplight device. When scheduled, all of the Ring Smart Lighting solar products have a single brightness level specifically designed to maximize battery life. On Steplight, Pathlight, and Floodlight, devices, the lights will turn on at a low brightness level during the schedule: Floodlight: 80 lumens Steplight: 1.2-2.0 lumens Pathlight: 1.2-2.0 lumens If you prefer a brighter light device, we’d suggest a Solar Wall Light. This device has 800 lumens of brightness. Here is an article relating to this product: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360058616391-Ring-Smart-Lighting-Wall-Light-Solar-information. For any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out on our community forum at https://community.ring.com/. We look forward to hearing from you soon! Thank you, Jamila with Ring.

Q:How much sun does the unit need during a day to power the battery to last throughout the night?
      by|Oct 22, 2021

      Answer This Question

A:  Hello JonP, Ring recommends at least three to four hours of direct sunlight, depending on your usage. Make sure there are no obstructions that could be casting a shadow on your solar power device such as an extended roof, trees branches, or bushes. If your installation area is frequently very cloudy or gets a lot of rain or snow, this could limit the amount of sunlight that your solar power device receives. The solar panel requires direct sunlight. Filtered/indirect sunlight through the clouds will not provide a charge to your device. Here is a helpful article that explains this in more detail: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360041776691-Placing-Your-Solar-Smart-Lights-for-Optimum-Performance. Q:I need a battery replacement #18650 for this unit. Why does Ring not offer one?

        Answer This Question

A:  Hello dweeb. Great question! Ring is always looking for ways to improve our neighbors experience! This is a great suggestion! You can also relay your product feedback and suggestions on our feature request board within our sites' Ring Community online forum here: https://community.ring.com/c/products/24. This ensures your voice is heard by our developers. Ring does not recommend using discount battery brands as they may not provide reliable power performance. In addition, when changing out batteries, we recommend using all new batteries from the same brand. Even one battery with insufficient power can cause unreliable device performance. Thank you, Alexis with Ring

All four lights died within one year.
I purchased four of the smaller Ring smart solar wall lights and all four lights died and will not recharge by the end of the first year. One even died soon after 30 days. These lights were never great to begin with . Even on the lightest motion setting we were getting so many false motion notifications that we had to turn off the motion sensor. We have several high quality Ring camera lights mounted to the exterior walls of our house that are quite reliable, but all the Ring Smart Wall Lights are expensive junk.

            Not worth it
This light is definitely not worth it. I've had 6 of them for 6 months. First unit stopped working within a month of installation. Try and find customer service at Ring. After a very long process of restarting and testing, they agreed to replace the unit. However, they were back ordered for over three months. The unit is now two months late in arriving. I went out last night to find the other units not working. I wish I hadn't purchased them.

                Hello Madbad,

Thank you for taking the time to share your Ring Step Light experience with us. We are pleased to hear that your interactions with our support team have been pleasant. We understand the importance of having the batteries last in your home’s environment, so these support calls are not necessary. Rest assured, we are here to provide you with information to resolve your concern.

To get the most life out of your batteries, Ring recommends using standard alkaline batteries in your Ring Smart Lighting devices. Rechargeable batteries will work in your Ring Step Light, though they may not last as long as alkaline batteries. Heavy-duty batteries should not be used in the Ring device. Lithium batteries will also work in your Ring Step Light and are recommended when the weather is cold. The specific type of battery our Ring Smart Lights use is called a Bottom Top 18650 3.7V Lithium-ion Battery. Here is a helpful article that elaborates on some factors that could be causing the unnecessary battery drainage: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360041789191-Troubleshooting-Unexpected-Battery-Drain-in-Ring-Solar-Smart-Lights. Customers can expect about a year of battery life when they keep the brightness at 50% and have the lights activate in 30 second intervals.

We invite you to reach out at https://community.ring.com/if any additional information is needed regarding the Step Light. Ring Community is our first peer-to-peer community forum, giving our customers the ability to help one another and share their feedback and experiences with Ring.

Thank you, Jamila with Ring. Ring
