I am hoping to use this for a deep pothole. We had planned to use gravel in the hole and top it with this. Is this the correct product for that use?

Use crushed rock as opposed to gravel allow 2" for Road Rescue.

I have an section of my asphalt driveway that is breaking up. It is irregular in shape, the dept is only one inch down, and the size is approximately 4 feet by 4 feet. Will this when compacted cold into that space - cleaned out of broken asphalt and debris - with dirt at the base of the space - make a good repair that will last? Can't afford to have a new driveway put in.
Asked by: GottaGlue
That's a good question. I used it to create a small berm about two inches high and about two feet long to redirect some water that was draining into my garage. I tamped the material down and it has held its shape well and has not moved for six months. I'm not sure if it would adhere and stay in place with a depth of one inch. I'd do my best to remove dirt first.

Read sales collaterals material about dry consistency, and air tight bag. Applied with temps in the high 80’s, high humidity. Opened bag and immediately poured into small pot hole. Tamped down with square tamper (see accompanying photo). Worked as advertised, turning gray as it was compacted. Then 5-10 minutes later poured more, from still open bag, into a shallow depression; second application would not compress. Material had already dried out. Description for use should specify use of entire bag for one application, or bag should have a a zip-loc type closure. If package contained smaller packets of material, it could easily be used for multiple applications within minutes of each other. Advise for breakup of clumps is ineffective; dropping bag several times from 12 inches had no affect. Wasted valuable time breaking up clumps by hand. Returned both bags to Home Depot for a full refund. Product needs some tweaking to delay setup time. As it stands, Road Rescue Asphalt Repair isn’t worth the money. At least I got the worst pot hole repaired. Repair survived heavy rain 5 hours later.

Apparently when the house was built some trees were removed and the builder didn't remove the stumps completely and they are decaying and causing sinking areas in the driveway. We have used asphalt repair to fill in those areas some of which are 3 foot in diameter and six inches deep. This product is simple to use. You pour it in the hole, spread it out evenly ( some of it has clumps but you can break it up easily ) and drive over it to compact the product. If it compacts below the surface add more and drive over it again. I was skeptical at first but this stuff does what they said it would. It is hard as a rock even it 90 degree temps. Hard rain doesn't damage it, driving on it doesn't damage it. I don't know how it does in cold weather yet, but will follow up this winter.

The color is grayish black so doesn’t exactly match my blacktop but otherwise works well. One thing I learned - be careful about pouring so you don’t get small pieces all over because then when you’re moving around you get the pieces all over the bottom of your shoes and it does not want to come off. I had to get out a knife and scrape off my shoes.

It was very easy to use and easy to clean up. If the repair is not in a location where you can drive over it, you need to hand pound the product in order to activate it. Still, it works better than anything else I've used.

My purpose for Road Rescue was to create a smoother transition between our newly paved street and my uphill driveway. Although the manufacturer does not recommend Road Rescue for that type of use, it worked remarkably well. Road Rescue is NOT a sticky, tar-gravel aggregate like some other asphalt repair products. It's dry and has an almost dirt-like consistency. It is very easy to work with using a shovel and the back edge of a rake. It hardens once it's tamped down. I used a tamper but the manufacturer recommends that you just drive over it to tamp it down. With Road Rescue in place, I no longer scrape the front valance of my car when backing into my driveway.

The product was OK, partly my fault for not reading the entire description on the website. (ordered on-line for a driveway project) It did what it said it would, but I thought it was harder to work with vs ordinary cold patch. While it was less messy/sticky than cold patch, the granules didn't stay in place as well as normal cold patch. If I were filling a hole, this would be fine, but I was trying to build up the transition into the garage, and this product doesn't do well with thin feathered edges, as it doesn't stay in place.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Used this product to repair (again) a relatively large depression... Used this product to repair (again) a relatively large depression in our driveway. Area involved about 4 sq ft with sloped edges - basically a shallow pothole. Repaired this same area about 3 years ago with Quikrete and it did a commendable job before water/ice degraded to the point it needed refilling. So after researching/reading about other products, decided on the Road Rescue this time around. Thoroughly prepared the area and applied according to instructions which is a no-brainer. Compressed the patch using a heavy steel tamper. First impressions were that it would be an excellent repair. Now after less than 3 weeks the patch is showing signs of "coming apart" at the surface. Every day there is more and more loose material shedding from the patch. Not sure how long it will be before it is worn through but it's not looking good. About $13.00 for the Quikrete, nearly triple for the Road Rescue. Hope it lasts through the upcoming winter!!

This product is so versatile that you can use it not only to fill pot holes ,but also to fill shallow scuff outs and slight depressions. Simply put a coat of Tack Coat on the area to fill, and put the Road Rescue on while the tack coat is still wet. Done, unless you want to add a seal coat later. I usually do. I repair the roads for a 150 resident mobile home park in rainy rainy rainy Oregon. And our park was built on a wetlands. I have Road Rescue Repairs that have lasted 5 years with no signs of deterioration.
