Questions & Answers

Will it cut smooth cuts with our tearing up the wood

Asked by: Mmw
You will have to use the PROPER blade in order to get a nice finished cut. You need a blade with a lot of teeth / inch, and you need to carefully run the material through your saw, keeping mind of the sound of the motor (saw). The sound of the saw will keep you aware of how hard the motor is working. e.g. Don't force the work through, causing binding, smoke, and maybe bending or even breaking the blade. (Consult the information that came with your blades regarding cutting across the grain, or with the grain). Finally, if you're cutting plywood, expect some tearing-out of the wood. A little more when crosscutting (across the grain). The addition of good duct tape on the bottom-side of the wood helps tear-out. And if your blade has been specifically designed to cut on the down-stroke, then you need the duct tape on the top of the wood. It's much easier to use this kind of blade because your cut-line is right on top of the work, on top of the tape...

Can I cut different shapes and Welcome signs

Asked by: Lindsey
Yes, you can, but you are limited by the distance between the blade and the guide. So it will work with smaller pieces but i would think a jig saw would be more practical.

Blade Runner X2 Portable Tabletop Saw is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 573.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from the most versatile saw i have ever owned as a professional luthier with a high demand for custom built guitars this saw is great.. with 2 table saws and a bandsaw I keep finding myself going to this saw first. the rips are outstanding and very accurate.. cutting out guitar bodies and headstocks are a real breeze.. my jigsaws are put away now that I have this saw. Rockwell outdid themselves with this one.. high quality, versatile, easy to use, and takes on any cut I need to make and it has cut my production time down by 35%.. I don't know how I ever got along without this saw. I just cant say enough on how great this is.. I LOVE IT!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent tool for the job ! I bought a BladeRunner to work on my "winter project" basement room makeover. Saved me from breaking out the large, heavy miter saw, or cutting outdoors in the cold. I cut endless pieces of molding (both pine and PVC), knotty cedar planking strips, and more than a few 2x3 studs used to close up a closet opening. I wouldn't recommend it to frame a house, but it sure gets the smaller job done with a sharp blade. I purchased the cross cut sled attachment, which made the tool just that much better when making standard 90 degree cuts; highly recommended. Couldn't be easier to set up and to operate, and cleans up nicely, too. The various components work well, and they store under and behind the unit in a well thought-out fashion. Would also highly recommend using the shop vac attachment when cutting (learned a bit too late), which greatly reduces the sawdust debris field around the work area. A terrific $120 spent (saw + push sled), and I'm sure I'll find uses for my BladeRunner for years to come.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Greatest Saw I Ever Owned!!!!!!! My wife bought me on for Christmas and I love it. There are so many different things you can do with this one small, lightweight portable saw. I was thinking about purchasing a scroll saw until 3 years ago when I watched a live demonstration on Rockwell.com. Once I saw them doing the different demonstrations with the saw, I told my wife I wanted one. The live demonstrations were an excellent idea for Rockwell. I watched at least 4 different online demos and learned something new from each one of them. If you're unsure about the saw and want more details, sign up for their Emails and when they invite you to watch it live, you will definitely make up your mind. Not only do I have a scroll saw now, I have a number of different saws in one. Now I can't wait for the next live internet demo so I can show her the Rockwell JawHorse. I would definitely recommend this saw to any one that does carpentry or woodworking. It's a great tool at an excellent price.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from The blade guard is a problem. When cross cutting narrow pieces like those shown in the video the saw is fine. I noticed the video did not show ripping. Ripping a short piece is OK, When ripping a board longer than the table, if the fence is off a very small fraction, the cut will not line up with the blade guard support so the wood will bind. The longer the piece of wood the more chance of binding. When using as a scroll saw the video shows random angles being cut without the operator not really caring about the shape being cut. If you want to cut a specific pattern, the blade guard will hide the guide lines of the piece being cut.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Difficult to Cut Straight Was looking forward to this tool, but was disappointed with its performance. I left a detailed review on Rockwell's site, but here are the problems: 1. There is enough slop in the mitre gauge to rely on the angle. I guess if you you leave room, you can sand or grind down to your cut line--an extra step not required if you had simply used a table saw, mitre saw, or tile cutting saw. 2. When using either the mitre gauge or fence, the blade has a tendency to walk left or right as the lower guide is not slotted, and the upper guides don't actually touch the sides of the blade to keep it aligned. My best cuts, less than 1/32" deviation from end to end, we're done free-hand with a slow feed speed. If you are aware of its limitations and don't require precision, this could potentially be a versatile saw. If you work with wood or plastic, go straight to a table saw for cross cuts, mitre, or rip cuts. It's only if you have to work occasionally with light metal stock where this tool may be worth the limitations in terms of convenience, as long as you understand its limitations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just all around handy. This is no contractor's saw, obviously, but it does a real nice job. I had seen it on display in one of the big box stores and was interested, but as there was no under stock available, and no help to answer my queries I put off buying. I then looked online and read some really discouraging reviews (and some great ones). Now that I've used the saw I'm convinced that some of the negative reviews were from people with some really unrealistically high expectations and/or with really poor reading comprehension! I bought it primarily to do some very light, short cuts on some hobby materials, which it did easily and with smoother, cleaner cuts than I expected. (Less sanding for me!) I even ripped a short piece of 3/4" plywood, which it cut through in a breeze and again, a very smooth cut. All in all, I'm more pleased with my purchase than I expected to be! I can see myself using it on larger projects in the future.
