Dear Customer, thank you for your purchase of Rubi Tools. We thank you for your feedback and appreciate you taking the time to post your review.
It is unusual to see the issues that are described in the review and If used properly, the scoring wheel blades should last for several tile jobs and the bars should not flex. Hopefully a few tips will help with the issues you are seeing while cutting the tile.
Rubi manual cutters work on a score and snap principle and it is important to get a consistent score across the entire cut path and use the breaker at end of the tile near the fence. This is the best way to get a consistent cut every time. Never try to push the breaker down in the middle of the tile, this will result in erratic and inconsistent breaks in the tile. This may also be the reason for the observed excessive tube flex. If the tile is breaking out at the starting edge, try to back score the first inch of the tile and then make the complete and consistent score.
That being said, it is possible to press too hard when making the score. Too hard pressure will result in a rough cut and could be the cause of the jagged edges, plus this will cause the blade to wear very quickly. We recommend that you make a few practice cuts on scrap tile with varying pressures in order to get the feel for the right pressure to make clean cuts. Please keep in mind that a consistent score is needed and not a deep score to cut tile with manual cutters.
For the tile that you were cutting, the scoring wheel may not have been the correct size (wheel diameter) for that tile. The scoring wheel that comes with the product is ideal for smooth surface tile, but we would recommend using a larger Rubi scoring wheel for textured and harder porcelain products. If you have textured tile, we recommend the 3/8” Scoring Wheels. Larger scoring wheels not only help work through highly textured tile, but have a different edge profile which are also ideal for harder porcelains.
