I used this to cut 18" x 18" porcelain tile for a shower stall. It took me a while - and several broken tiles to figure out how to use this as there are virtually no instructions available. I get saving trees, etc. but downloadable instructions on a website would have been handy. Biggest tip I have is that in order for the tile to break cleanly, you need a good score line that crosses the entire tile, which for me meant running the scoring wheel twice over the tile. You score the tile by dragging the handle from pulled out to in. The tile will not break when you push down on the handle unless the handle is pushed all the way in. This tool cut straight lines cleaner than my DIY wet saw with little to no edge chipping. Combining this tool with an angle grinder made this job a reasonable chore. Definitely worth the price.

The Star Max is the light weight for cutting ceramic and porcelain tiles. It comes with ¼ scoring wheel and you can purchase 3/8 in scoring wheel they interchangeable. It has folding side arms to help increase the support area for large format tiles. It has a Lateral stop with 45 square. Here are some down side of this unit. No instructions. They have pictures on the side of the box and the sequence how to cut but it does not show you how setup the scoring wheel. I did find some YouTube videos on this make and model. Here is YouTube site: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=53&v=Zpsw1cgD0QU I have a project coming up but I had old tile I want to try out first. I got a couple of straight cuts but most of them did not follow the scored line. I tried putting more pressure on the scoring but it did not seem to work. I did not have any smooth tile only uneven surfaces. It was hard to get a score at the end since the tile tapper off. See below for pictures of the results. I guess you have to practice more but I want to waste a lot of tile to get a straight cut. The results, I think I am sticking with wet saw tile cutter.

I just jad a chance to try out my 26 Star tile cutter. This is a great tile cutter. On mu first cut i can see the quality that was put in the making of this cutter.i was cutting a 18 Ceramic tile. I position the tile as if I was going to do a straight cut and a diagonal cut and it did a great job. Take a look at the pictures and you can see some of the great features is tile cutter has.

The Rubi 26 inch Star Max Tile Cutter is a good tile cutter for the price, but the Rubi Speed 26 ...
The Rubi 26 inch Star Max Tile Cutter is a good tile cutter for the price, but the Rubi Speed 26 inch Tile Cutter for $2 more is a much better value. Two and half years ago in the middle of a major bathroom renovation, I bought a Rubi Speed 26 inch Tile Cutter and loved it. I used it to cut a lot of 6 inch by 24 inch ceramic simulated wood plank tiles and also wanted to be able to cut single-strength picture frame glass with it. It worked well for both applications, so when I saw the Rubi 26 inch Star Max Tile Cutter, I wondered if it would work as well as my older model Speed 26. The good news is that the Star Max is similar enough in design that it works fine for cutting tile and should work OK on glass too (with the appropriately sized scoring wheel). The bad news is that the Star Max is made of a lot more plastic than the Rubi Speed 26. The entire measuring guide and miter angle of the Star Max is plastic as compared to the stamped metal guide of the Speed 26. Part of the plastic guide bar of the Star Max was broken when I took it out of the box, but I was able to glue it back together. On the other hand, the spring-loaded plastic clip that holds the Star Max guide bar is much easier to adjust than the metal thumb screw of the Speed 26. The base platform of the Speed 26 is much wider than the Star Max base so it gives more support to large tiles or pieces of glass. The Star Max 26 and Speed 26 both have plastic tile supports that can be folded outward from the base to help support larger tiles. The Star Max supports are double thickness I-beam shaped and marginally stronger than the single thickness supports of the Speed 26. Personally, I think a better approach if you're going to be cutting a lot of large tiles would be to build a small plywood or MDF table with a slot into which the tile cutter would sit so the whole table surface was at the same height as the tile cutter base so you don't have to rely on the plastic supports. Also, the two stainless steel guide bars that the cutting head moves on looked and felt smaller to me on the Star Max than the ones on the Speed 26, so I measured them. The Star Max guides are 13 mm diameter while the Speed 26's are 15 mm diameter. The parts that support the guide bars on the Star Max are made of plastic while the Speed 26's are solid metal castings. Which do you think will last longer and stay in alignment better? In conclusion, I recommend the Rubi Speed 26 over the Rubi Star Max 26 if you can still get the Speed 26.

This is a 26" tile cutter that can easily cut 24" tiles or less. It has an easily replaceable cutter wheel that comes with the tool. The cutter wheel is inserted trough the opening in the top of the slide and is secured by tightening the push handle. It has guides for 90 degree and 45 degree cuts. If constant pressure is maintained from the front of the tile to the back the tile can easily be scored and cut. The breaker is activated by pressing down on the handle while keeping the score line centered. This results in a clean break. There are clear instructions on the box on assemble and use, but this tools is simple and easy to use.

I got this tile cutter for my bathroom re-tiling project. While I don't need the 26" capability for this project, it's always nice to have larger capability for future projects. Also, for 45 degree / diagonal cuts the cutter needs to be 1.5 times the size of the tile width. The cutter didn't come with any instructions, but it's easy enough to figure out how to assemble it. It took me a few tiles until I figured out how to best cut them, since then the cutter works flawless.

Dear Customer, thank you for taking the time to post your rating on Rubi products. The Star-Max manual cutter can cut ceramic, porcelain and glass tiles and shouldn't chip if used properly. The 6mm scoring wheel that comes with the Star Max tile cutter is for smooth and softer products and the 10mm will help score smoothly through porcelain. Therefore, you will need a 10mm scoring wheel if the tile is hard to cut or textured. Note that most common mistakes made with manual cutters include not making a complete and consistent scoring path all the way across the tile, not using the proper scoring wheel (a 3/8” - 10mm scoring wheel for textured or hard porcelain tile), or scoring too hard that leads to chipped tiles. As always, feel free to contact customers service so that we can help resolve any issues and answer any questions that you may have regarding your purchase. You can also find our tips on our Rubi YouTube video channel for extra guidance. Rubi

Flimsy - Provided wheel not design for porcelain
The roller connecting the two top bars are not smooth and require grease. It jiggle left and right if your tile is not perfectly smooth. The roller bar at the top bends easily as you slide. Everything else on this thing is plastic. I was thinking of getting this to cut the 24" at a small 10 to 15 degrees angle, but it does not work. I got the QEP 24" and it cuts it perfectly. You can actually do a diagonal cut across the 24" with at least an inch to spare and roller bearing on the QEP made it smooth as butter. Rubi, if you are reading this, redesign is needed. Considering this is 109 compare to the QEP 105, this is not a quality product. Perhaps I used for the wrong application, but again, this is flimsy.

Dear Customer, thank you for taking the time to post your rating on Rubi products. At Rubi Tools, we take our continuous improvement program very seriously and we always appreciate constructive feedback that will help better our product. We always appreciate the opportunity to help resolve your issues so that you have the best experiences with our tools. The 26in Star should provide a clean cut. The plastic stanchions and guides are tested to be stable and if your saw has excessive play, there is a chance that it would be damaged or defective. The breaker and carriage are made out of aluminum which is where you need the extra support for the break. The only adjustment in the handle should be to install/remove the scoring wheel and from there you can adjust the height of the scoring wheel depending on your preferences. If that is not working properly, again, the saw could be defective. If you are truly having issues with the cutter, we would like the opportunity to help resolve any issues you may be having. If you are a pro who uses cutters on a daily basis and prefers all aluminum parts, we recommend starting out with the Speed series cutters. Depending on your needs, you can go up from there. In addition to our continuous improvement program, we handle each customer issue individually and would like the opportunity to help resolve whatever issue you are having with the product. As always, feel free to contact customers service at 305-715-9892 or by email at rubitools.usa@rubi.com so that we can help resolve any issues and answer any questions that you may have regarding your purchase. Dear Customer, thank you for your purchase of Rubi Tools. We thank you for your feedback and appreciate you taking the time to post your review. We apologize for any issues that you may have had with the product. New Star-Max tile cutter has been improved compared to previous model. Some of the improvements are: 1. aluminum (vs plastic in previous model) sliding tool for longer life and easier scoring. 2. heavier duty breaking feet that allows this cutter to be more powerful and accurate when snapping. 3. Sturdier guides support for a better score and higher breaking power. Although the Star Max series product is our entry level cutter and is excellent for light tile installations, we manufacture a wide range of professional cutters. If you are looking for a cutter that will be used professionally, we would recommend starting with the Rubi Speed series or one of our other higher end professional cutter models. We also have a full range of scoring wheel sizes to optimize your cutting of glass, ceramic and porcelain tile. Thank you for your feedback and as always, feel free to contact customers service at 305-715-9892 or by email at rubitools.usa@rubi.com so that we can help resolve any issues and answer any questions that you may have regarding your purchase. Thanks Rubi
