I used this to cut 18" x 18" porcelain tile for a shower stall. It took me a while - and several broken tiles to figure out how to use this as there are virtually no instructions available. I get saving trees, etc. but downloadable instructions on a website would have been handy. Biggest tip I have is that in order for the tile to break cleanly, you need a good score line that crosses the entire tile, which for me meant running the scoring wheel twice over the tile. You score the tile by dragging the handle from pulled out to in. The tile will not break when you push down on the handle unless the handle is pushed all the way in. This tool cut straight lines cleaner than my DIY wet saw with little to no edge chipping. Combining this tool with an angle grinder made this job a reasonable chore. Definitely worth the price.

The Star Max is the light weight for cutting ceramic and porcelain tiles. It comes with ¼ scoring wheel and you can purchase 3/8 in scoring wheel they interchangeable. It has folding side arms to help increase the support area for large format tiles. It has a Lateral stop with 45 square. Here are some down side of this unit. No instructions. They have pictures on the side of the box and the sequence how to cut but it does not show you how setup the scoring wheel. I did find some YouTube videos on this make and model. Here is YouTube site: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=53&v=Zpsw1cgD0QU I have a project coming up but I had old tile I want to try out first. I got a couple of straight cuts but most of them did not follow the scored line. I tried putting more pressure on the scoring but it did not seem to work. I did not have any smooth tile only uneven surfaces. It was hard to get a score at the end since the tile tapper off. See below for pictures of the results. I guess you have to practice more but I want to waste a lot of tile to get a straight cut. The results, I think I am sticking with wet saw tile cutter.

I just jad a chance to try out my 26 Star tile cutter. This is a great tile cutter. On mu first cut i can see the quality that was put in the making of this cutter.i was cutting a 18 Ceramic tile. I position the tile as if I was going to do a straight cut and a diagonal cut and it did a great job. Take a look at the pictures and you can see some of the great features is tile cutter has.

The Rubi 26 inch Star Max Tile Cutter is a good tile cutter for the price, but the Rubi Speed 26 inch Tile Cutter for $2 more is a much better value. Two and half years ago in the middle of a major bathroom renovation, I bought a Rubi Speed 26 inch Tile Cutter and loved it. I used it to cut a lot of 6 inch by 24 inch ceramic simulated wood plank tiles and also wanted to be able to cut single-strength picture frame glass with it. It worked well for both applications, so when I saw the Rubi 26 inch Star Max Tile Cutter, I wondered if it would work as well as my older model Speed 26. The good news is that the Star Max is similar enough in design that it works fine for cutting tile and should work OK on glass too (with the appropriately sized scoring wheel). The bad news is that the Star Max is made of a lot more plastic than the Rubi Speed 26. The entire measuring guide and miter angle of the Star Max is plastic as compared to the stamped metal guide of the Speed 26. Part of the plastic guide bar of the Star Max was broken when I took it out of the box, but I was able to glue it back together. On the other hand, the spring-loaded plastic clip that holds the Star Max guide bar is much easier to adjust than the metal thumb screw of the Speed 26. The base platform of the Speed 26 is much wider than the Star Max base so it gives more support to large tiles or pieces of glass. The Star Max 26 and Speed 26 both have plastic tile supports that can be folded outward from the base to help support larger tiles. The Star Max supports are double thickness I-beam shaped and marginally stronger than the single thickness supports of the Speed 26. Personally, I think a better approach if you're going to be cutting a lot of large tiles would be to build a small plywood or MDF table with a slot into which the tile cutter would sit so the whole table surface was at the same height as the tile cutter base so you don't have to rely on the plastic supports. Also, the two stainless steel guide bars that the cutting head moves on looked and felt smaller to me on the Star Max than the ones on the Speed 26, so I measured them. The Star Max guides are 13 mm diameter while the Speed 26's are 15 mm diameter. The parts that support the guide bars on the Star Max are made of plastic while the Speed 26's are solid metal castings. Which do you think will last longer and stay in alignment better? In conclusion, I recommend the Rubi Speed 26 over the Rubi Star Max 26 if you can still get the Speed 26.

This is a 26" tile cutter that can easily cut 24" tiles or less. It has an easily replaceable cutter wheel that comes with the tool. The cutter wheel is inserted trough the opening in the top of the slide and is secured by tightening the push handle. It has guides for 90 degree and 45 degree cuts. If constant pressure is maintained from the front of the tile to the back the tile can easily be scored and cut. The breaker is activated by pressing down on the handle while keeping the score line centered. This results in a clean break. There are clear instructions on the box on assemble and use, but this tools is simple and easy to use.

I got this tile cutter for my bathroom re-tiling project. While I don't need the 26" capability for this project, it's always nice to have larger capability for future projects. Also, for 45 degree / diagonal cuts the cutter needs to be 1.5 times the size of the tile width. The cutter didn't come with any instructions, but it's easy enough to figure out how to assemble it. It took me a few tiles until I figured out how to best cut them, since then the cutter works flawless.

                  Support piece shattered
The front support piece shattered while cutting a 1/4 in tile, tried to get the replacement piece, you can’t get it from Rubi because it sold at Home Depot, so I went to their vendor and they said I have to buy at least $45.00 in parts. The part is only $8.00 I will throw it out and buy another brand.
