This is, quite honestly, the WORST SPRAY PAINT I'VE EVER USED! I bought 2 cans to cover a 2 drawer file cabinet. On the first can, it stopped spraying or clogged after a very short time - probably about 3/4 of the can was left. I then had to turn the spray nozzle, shake, or otherwise try all sorts of positions to get it down to about 1/4 can left, and by that time I had so many starts and stops, blotches, and other imperfections, the file cabinet looked terrible. I gave up on this can and started my second can (even though there was still product shaking around in the first can). The second can was worse - I only got it down to about half of the product left. But now that I started, I couldn't stop - so had to run to Home Depot (Returned the 2 cans as defective), and got two more. Both of these cans had similar issue - but I was out of options, so just kept shaking, turning the nozzle, trying new angles, and getting very tired of pressing the nozzle down to find nothing happening. In the end, I got both of these cans to near zero product left, but it took a LOT of starts and stops, and because of that, was blotchy. I have never had new cans of paint perform this poorly. On top of that, coverage was terrible - after 2 full cans and 2 partial cans, it's splotchy, and while you can't see the original (gray) file cabinet color, there are a lot of spots that are a grayish tint and really ought to get more paint - but I'm DONE with this paint, and it's going to do as-is. This paint is terrible - the nozzle is just not designed correctly to let this paint (which includes sand or some similar grit) flow through the nozzle. The photos don't show the blotchiness as well as it looks in real life - I've spray painted plenty of things over the years, and never had a spay paint job take this much work or come out this way. In the end, the file cabinet does not look terrible - but if I was starting over, I would absolutely NOT paint with this product again...

Oh no, we understand your frustration, Steve! Rust-Oleum Stops Rust MultiColor Texture Spray will not cover quite as well as solid colors, due to the texture of the finish and the flecked color appearance. To assist with the coverage of the product, you can apply a solid base coat of paint or primer that is close to the color of the Multicolored paint. Try spraying the can upside down for a few seconds. If that doesn't work, wiping the nozzle with mineral spirits should clear it out. It is also very important to vigorously shake the can for 1 minute beforehand as well as during application to ensure any settled pigment is dispersed. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5 Rustoleum

It creates a really cool effect! Have used on metal, glass and wood and I love it! However, it doesn't cover as much as regular spray paint, I've learned to pre-paint my project and use this for effect only, it is not good for full coverage.

Final result looked good. I was painting rain gutter downspouts I had added. The finely-textured dull appearance helped these blend with older downspouts and uneven paint on house. Observations: 1. Covers less surface area than typical can of spray paint (has texture material besides the pigment and vehicle) 2. Tendency to throw glops of paint/texture with new can. Mitigated by shaking new can vigorously with can upside down. 3. Uneven application not evident while painting required 2 or more coats to blend.

Thank you for sharing your experience, Bill! You are right, each can of Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Textured Spray Paint has a recommended coverage of 4-6 square feet. Applying over a similar colored top coat helps with coverage and an even appearance. For the best results, we do recommend applying 2 or more light coats a few minutes apart and shaking the can often during your application. Rustoleum

After installing new floors, the beige heater vent covers looked bad. Instead of spending $30.00 (each) on 4 new covers, we used this paint. It worked beautifully, looks great and is durable. Mmmm maybe the iron patio furniture will be next!

I'm putting up a vintage scroll fence that is rusted. I used this product to paint the "T" posts to match. It does have the appearance of heavily rusted metal, so the color and texture was perfect. Not sure how long it will last. The can of paint did not seem to last as long as plain (untextured) colors, but I was painting it over dark green posts.

    Waste of time and money
We got a can of this paint to redo an toy dump truck our grandson plays with in the back yard. The only good thing about this paint is that it sprays out of the can very well. The directions say to use two light coats. After about 4 light coats we ran out of paint and still hadn't gotten color coverage. By the time you spray enough paint on to get any visible color build the paint starts to sag. The coverage is splotchy at best. We could have painted 3 or 4 of this size toy with a regular paint. So unless you don't mind using at least 3 times as much paint on your project, and even then with marginal results I'd recommend another paint like the hammered finish.

Thank you for sharing your experience, Pete. Keep in mind that Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Multi-Colored Textured Paint will not have the same coverage as a standard RO paint. Depending on what you're painting, you may want to consider using a paint or primer that's similar in color underneath to help. This may help with the application. Rustoleum
