collet size?????

why does it state in specs that its a .25 size for bits ? isn't it a .50 collet
Asked by: drock
There is a section above that says "PRODUCT OVERVIEW" in pretty big font. Under that there are several bullets and one says this "1/2 in. collect and 1/4 in. adapter accept a variety of bits". Also .25=1/4 and .50=1/2. Hope that helps!

You will notice that the inner area is recessed with a couple screw holes for what appears to be an attachment that would allow you to install guide bushings, I called Ryobi and that was indeed what it was for, but they have not made that attachment for years so the screw holes are pointless unless you want to install something you made yourself. In order to use guide bushings I will have to buy an after market base plate. Now that I have more wood working experience I would recommend only buying routers that have a base plate already setup to accept guide bushings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tool for the price. If you're in need of a good plunge router this one will satisfy your needs for sure. Plenty of power and light. Comes with a 1/4" adapter as well. Great addition to my woodshop.

I've had this router for about a year now and have used it for routing table tops for about 15 projects. PROS: Great price. The handles are really nice and make the routing smooth. The soft-start is nice - eliminating that jerking motion hard-start motor do. It's beefy and sturdy, with plenty of power. CONS: Maybe it's my particular Ryobi router but the plunge is not smooth at all. I cannot push it down with the handles. I need to push it down from the top. The bed is really small, making it tip fairly easily at times. The plunge lock loosens frequently. I gave up on it and just the depth and lock it with the nut. Mixed thoughts about the on/off switch. I prefer a trigger type switch for safety reasons. I did drop it once while it was running and fortunately the running bit didn't drive into my foot! But it survived the drop, even while running. There is no dust port so be ready for a huge mess. If you are on a tight budget this is an okay entry level router. Just always keep safety in mind!

It does NOT take the standard, PC guides. You have to buy a separate adapter plate (no, Ryobi doesn't sell one). Because of the added thickness, it severely limits the cutting depth. Why do this?

I initially bought the palm router to use with the batteries but it sucked mine dry in 10 minutes and the router felt underpowered. Took it back and bought this instead. Cut really smooth. Make sure to read the manual to get guidance on how to set the speed for the type of wood.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for the diy'ers and beginning wood workers. (Video included) I've never owned a router, but they always seemed like a great tool to have around the house for not only installation of door hinges and lock, but for larger jobs like cabinet building and molding. I was not sure if I wanted a plunge or fixed base router, and I was not willing to spend $400 for two different name brand styles. I seen this a noticed that it had the best 3st of both worlds for a smaller price, so I decided to give it a shot. At first, I was worried that 8 would not be able to figure it out, but within 20 minutes, I felt like a pro using this. It was extremely easy to use, and all the adjustments were easy to make. The router is actually very powerful, and the speed can be adjusted from high to low for different types of wood. As for the router bits, it takes 1/2' and also has an adapter for 1/4' which makes this router very versatile. They give you a wrench, and makes but changes very fast and easy. It's also comfortable in the hands but does feel a bit bulky. the plunge action is very smooth, but like some others had mentioned, the locking mechanism does get a bit lose after using it for a while. There is however a screw that can be tightened in the back that will help snug it up. All in all, I have used this to cut holes in bi-metal doors, signed and some molding, and I am extremely happy with it. Once I get my skills sharpened, I will probably spend more for a more professional router, but until then, I'm happy with this.
