It doesn't need any preheating, but don't hide it in the fridge and think it will come out voluntarily.

I had no success with it and am now out a smaller fortune in LEDs and some trashed PCBs. It seems to me the melting point is way to high to do reflow.

Decided to try this for a job where electric outlet was not available, so couldn't use a normal soldering iron. There was one issue, the material had separated, so the first time I tried to use it, only a clear liquid came out of the tube (that's wrong, it supposed to be gray). To fix it I used an un-bent paperclip to reach down the nozzle and stir up the contents inside the syringe. After that, it worked great. A BBQ lighter provided more than enough heat to melt it, and after melting, it looks identical to a solder performed with electric iron. In my photos, note that the shiny background is just a piece of a pepsi can that I cut up and bent around the work area as a heat shield.

Worked quite well on small wires (14 ga.) needing to be soldered into brass cups/sleeves. Not much product in the tube but it did work. Best for smaller projects. Tested on a small section of 14 ga. wires with soldering iron first and was impressed how easy it was, as well as a strong connection! As stated, actual amount of paste in syringe is quite small. Use sparingly, or better yet, they could squeeze a little more in the tube! Overall, it worked just as it said, and my connections are holding strong presently.

empty syringe into a small glass vial, easier to use

i, like others, had problems with depositing a small amount from the syringe. so i emptied all of the product into a small glass vial(apprx 15ml capacity). this is the best way to use only what you need. i would also add that the larger the pieces you are joining, the bigger the flame has to be. especially copper, since it's such a good thermal conductor. when i joined thick(3mm diameter?) copper wire i needed a propane torch to get it to temperatures required quickly enough. i would not imagine use of a soldering iron is going to work with this stuff. it needs to be a hot open flame. if you take too long it won't work. it just turns black and powdery. if you're fast enough, you'll see it turn silver and work it's way into the joint. immediately remove the flame and quench(or if possible, spray with water).

Worthless

I purchased Solder-It because I need to solder a few small connections in a guitar amp I was repairing. All of the components were brand new, but had to be soldered after mounting them in the amp panel, and this paste seemed to be a great way to help assure a good connection even though I was working in a limited space. I set my soldering iron to the temperature recommended in the instructions - the flux burned very quickly. I turned the temp down until I didn't see any more burning, but at this temp the metals weren't flowing. I continued trying to experiment directly on my work bench, using a very small amount of the product (1/2 inch in length), to get a better feel for the product. After three more of these attempts (this makes 8 in all) the plunger bottomed out. That's crazy! Only 8 tiny joints attempted and the applicator was empty? If squeezed out all at once, the amount of material in the applicator would have been about three inches long? Worthless
