will this hub work with Phillips Hue lamps?

Asked by: joey
You have to first have the Phillips hue hub and then it syncs with SmartThings. This is my set up and I like it because SmartThings works with so many switches etc plus Alexa

Can the Smart things work with the Ring video door bell

Can the Smart things work with the Ring video door bell
Asked by: johnnybegood
Yes, The smartthings hub can use the motion detection on the ring doorbell and floodlights. There is an app you install (somewhere) within the smartthings automation pages that allows you to use the ring devices motion sensors. I use it, works good.

Is there a monthly charge and does it monitor door and window sensors

Is there a monthly charge and does it monitor door and window sensors
Asked by: Glenn
No charge. They have their own sensors, whether it will work with others is a gamble. It does work with other products. It will control my Bose sound bars etc. for instance.

The company just revised the app and they apparently don't know how to make it work. I was able to set up the hub easily and the leak sensor. The leak sensor works and it sends information to the app, but the app will not send me any notifications...pushes or texts to let me know that a leak is actually underway..... and Samsung is still trying to figure out why? I'm waiting for a call back. If they are confused, imagine me thinking I was doing something wrong and I'm fairly tech savvy in troubleshooting.... They were almost suggesting I download the older version of the app...really? why trot out the new version if it can't work. The techs in troubleshooting on the phone have to put you on hold constantly to turn to other people as soon as you ask a question...although they are very polite about it, lol. The reviews on this have been generally positive elsewhere, perhaps with the old app. I'm holding out hope for a resolution or it's a return.

This takes a little getting used to, and you must be willing to tinker with it periodically. It is easy to setup, and most "smart home" devices work with the SmartThings hub. If you are adding multiple of the same thing, like a light bulb, it is super easy to go through the process, but it seems like every time I add a new type of device, there is a bit of a learning curve. There is a large community online around this product, and it seems like anytime I have a question, someone else has come across the same situation and has provided their solution, which is very helpful. They are actively developing on this platform, which means that everyday this thing is getting better. I don't think any other smart home hub comes even close to this one, and I highly recommend this if you want to tie all of your smart home devices into one central hub. It is reasonably priced for what it does, and I am glad we decided to start making our home a smart home and integrating it all into this hub.

This makes it easy to control and connect all my smart home items together. I like the automated controls that are available through my phone. Only downfall is the compatibility between TP-link. I originally purchased 2 TP Link outlets that cannot be added and controlled by the hub.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Downloading and installing the SmartThings app on your cell phone is a requirement for operation ... Downloading and installing the SmartThings app on your cell phone is a requirement for operation of this device. During installation of the app, it asked for access to my contacts. I declined access, and the app ceased to function, so I was unable to set up the hub. There's no embedded web page in the hub as a workaround. After a call to tech support, they confirmed that w/o full access to my contacts, the app would not work, nor would the hub. I can understand wanting WiFi access, but not access to contacts. That's creepy Samsung. So I uninstalled the app, and packed up the SmartThings hub and returned it to Home Depot for a full refund. I'll be purchasing the WInk 2 instead.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Versatile PROs - I have had this hub for about 9 months, overall it plays well with other hubs/devices. There are a lot of custom scripts available (use at own risk) -- I wish it would connect to my garage opener, but other that that I have a Schladge deadbolt, GE switches, Phillips hub, Logitech hub, Inovelli switches, Aeotec doorbell. I can control most everything with Alexa and Google Assistant. Also have ActionTiles to control through the web. CONs - no way to control things if the hub goes offline (internet outage/smartthings outage). Would like to see the hub work with just the local network when there is an outage (maybe have a windows app that it could fall back to). It keeps me from using it as my only security system.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great flexability in controlling all of My devices (4 types so far) I've jumped head long in using this hub and haven't had any issues. I have several plug in switches to control on/off function of some floor lights, Dimmer module controlling 8 LED down lights, exterior on/off module controlling a water feature and a water on the floor sensor. Very satisfied with the ease connecting modules to the HUB and the speed commands are carried out when issued via the smart phone app. Just linked the Alexa control feature with no issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great as a presence sensor This is the brains of your smart home. If you only have the hub, you can still connect your smartphone and detect whenever that specific devices arrives or departs. Great for the kids or even for employees.
