There may be on current ones, but not on the one I bought last fall.

This container is a prime example of overregulation. It doesn't work for me either! I got rid of it. I thankfully still have a couple of the old style containers that still work just fine after 20 years.
Push the black lever in, then you can push the green lever down to open the valve to pour.
Hi Sue1102 - Sorry to hear you’ve had difficulty with our Gas Can. Let’s see if we can help troubleshoot for you. This can has a flow rate of 3+ gallons per minute when actuated fully and is designed to be used with your palm. The video "How To Operate Your SmartControl Fuel Container" can be found at the following link and should help: https://www.scepter.com/safety/instructional-videos/ . Step 1; Vent the fuel can by slowly unscrewing the cap, allow all the pressure to escape. Once vented re-tighten cap. Step 2: Flip up dark lever on back of spout with your palm. Step 3: With the dark green lever still flipped up, push the entire light green pad forward. It will be stiff as that is part of the child resistant feature. Step 4: Tilt can and pour. If you still require assistance or have any further questions, please contact our customer care team at 1-855-857-3252 or email customerservice@scepter.com. We are here to help!
The entire black spout unscrews from the main red container body and you fill it (carefully) thru that larger main container opening and then screw the black spout on again. Hope that helps. Tom
I also had difficulty having the tank filled (see my Review 10/8/23). When I went to the company website and viewed the video, I noticed that there apparently is supposed to be an insert placed in the fill screen. My can did NOT have that insert.
Hi Ben - The screen in the opening of the fuel container is a flame mitigation device (FMD) for consumer protection. Their inclusion in fuel containers is about to become law. Unfortunately there are people who misuse fuel and can end up severely injured. Our goal is the safety of our customers, so we’ve added one ahead of the pending regulations. We understand that filling the containers can take a bit longer, but this does add an extra layer of protection for consumers who don’t handle fuel responsibly. The FMD should never be removed from the container. Gas and diesel pumps are different. The FMD contains two internal ledges that the pump must rest on when filling depending on your fuel type. Diesel pumps rest on the first ledge, and gasoline pumps must be inserted to reach the second ledge. We have posted both fill and pour instructions online at https://www.scepter.com/safety/instructional-videos/ which should help. If you require any additional troubleshooting, please contact our customer care team at 1-855-857-3252 or email customerservice@scepter.com
I'm not the maker of the can, but I bought mine at HD, went to the gas station, filled it up, came home, poured in the gas, and cranked the engine on my power washer. It ran great and is still running great. I realize that's not a yes/no answer but IMHO, I wouldn't worry about it myself.
Hello Algemon - If your Scepter fuel can is new then there should be no need to wash or clean the inside prior to filling with fuel. If we can be of further service please contact our Customer Care Team at 1-855-857-3252. Thank you
Hello Donnie - We do have a capless gas tank funnel that can be used in conjunction with the Smart Control Gas Can. Please reach out to our Customer Care Team at 1-855-857-3252 for assistance. Thank you.
The spout would not go deep enough. That said, if your car is newer and, like mine, has no gas cap but does have a filler tube for emergencies, it may work.
Hi Stacky - Please contact our Customer Care Team so we can assist with your request. We can be reached at 1-855-857-3252
