Pressure Relief? Is there a way to make sure the pressure Relief is working correctly? It's not even that hot yet and I'm already having issues with leaking and pressure.

This container is a prime example of overregulation. It doesn't work for me either! I got rid of it. I thankfully still have a couple of the old style containers that still work just fine after 20 years.

Push the black lever in, then you can push the green lever down to open the valve to pour.

Hi Sue1102 - Sorry to hear you’ve had difficulty with our Gas Can. Let’s see if we can help troubleshoot for you. This can has a flow rate of 3+ gallons per minute when actuated fully and is designed to be used with your palm. The video "How To Operate Your SmartControl Fuel Container" can be found at the following link and should help: https://www.scepter.com/safety/instructional-videos/ . Step 1; Vent the fuel can by slowly unscrewing the cap, allow all the pressure to escape. Once vented re-tighten cap. Step 2: Flip up dark lever on back of spout with your palm. Step 3: With the dark green lever still flipped up, push the entire light green pad forward. It will be stiff as that is part of the child resistant feature. Step 4: Tilt can and pour. If you still require assistance or have any further questions, please contact our customer care team at 1-855-857-3252 or email customerservice@scepter.com. We are here to help!

The entire black spout unscrews from the main red container body and you fill it (carefully) thru that larger main container opening and then screw the black spout on again. Hope that helps. Tom

I also had difficulty having the tank filled (see my Review 10/8/23). When I went to the company website and viewed the video, I noticed that there apparently is supposed to be an insert placed in the fill screen. My can did NOT have that insert.

Hi Ben - The screen in the opening of the fuel container is a flame mitigation device (FMD) for consumer protection. Their inclusion in fuel containers is about to become law. Unfortunately there are people who misuse fuel and can end up severely injured. Our goal is the safety of our customers, so we’ve added one ahead of the pending regulations. We understand that filling the containers can take a bit longer, but this does add an extra layer of protection for consumers who don’t handle fuel responsibly. The FMD should never be removed from the container. Gas and diesel pumps are different. The FMD contains two internal ledges that the pump must rest on when filling depending on your fuel type. Diesel pumps rest on the first ledge, and gasoline pumps must be inserted to reach the second ledge. We have posted both fill and pour instructions online at https://www.scepter.com/safety/instructional-videos/ which should help. If you require any additional troubleshooting, please contact our customer care team at 1-855-857-3252 or email customerservice@scepter.com

I'm not the maker of the can, but I bought mine at HD, went to the gas station, filled it up, came home, poured in the gas, and cranked the engine on my power washer. It ran great and is still running great. I realize that's not a yes/no answer but IMHO, I wouldn't worry about it myself.

The spout would not go deep enough. That said, if your car is newer and, like mine, has no gas cap but does have a filler tube for emergencies, it may work.

Customers say the Scepter 2 Gallon SmartControl Gasoline Container is a well-designed product that effectively prevents spills and controls the flow of gasoline, making it suitable for various applications like lawn mowers and small engines. While many appreciate its safety features and sturdy construction, some users find the spout mechanism complicated and difficult to operate, particularly those with limited hand strength. Overall, the container is praised for its durability and effectiveness, though a learning curve is noted for first-time users.

                          No vent = collapsed can
. The gas poured fine but as I poured the gas can collapsed inwards. I stopped pouring and opened the can and that relieved the vacuum but the can stayed collapsed. Ran through a tank of gas in my snowblower and when I tried to refill it the gas barley trickled out of the can. I got a funnel and put it in my snowblower and took the spout off and tried pouring it into the funnel but as the gas went into the funnel it also ran down the side of the can and all over the ground. What a lousy design.

Hi -thFH - We apologize for your experience. Customer satisfaction is very important to Scepter. We STRONGLY ADVISE AGAINST using this can with any modifications. Please contact our Customer Service team at 1-800-387-6018 or email customerservice@scepter.com so that we can resolve this for you. Similar to medication packaging, gas/diesel cans must also adhere to strict child resistance packaging laws. All fuel containers sold in the United States must come equipped with a child-safety lock and adhere to environmental regulations (EPA). This product should only be used with the spout it came with at the time of purchase. There is a funnel available directly from Scepter that can be used in conjunction with the SMARTCONTROL SPOUT. Every automobile/equipment is different, so it is not a one size fits all situation. We conduct leak testing of this product so if the cap is screwed down and tightened securely, this should not leak. This can is designed to be used with your palm. Step 1: Vent the fuel can by slowly unscrewing the cap, allow all the pressure to escape. Once vented re-tighten cap. You may find that placing the fuel can flat on the ground and actuating the spout once or twice prior to use may allow the green pad to slide easier during operation. Step 2: Flip up dark lever on back of spout with your palm. Step 3: With the dark green lever still flipped up, push the entire light green pad forward. It will be stiff as that is part of the child resistant feature. You may find that placing the fuel can flat on the ground and actuating the spout once or twice prior to use may allow the green pad to slide easier during operation. Step 4: Tilt can and pour. The spout has a channel for venting when pouring. The “screen” you see in the neck of the fuel can is actually a safety device called a flame mitigation device (FMD). Its inclusion in fuel containers is part of a 2020 U.S. law to improve overall safety. It does not make it safe to mix Gas and Fire, which remains extremely dangerous, but helps to protect the consumer against situations of potential misuse. Do not ever remove or modify the FMD. We understand that filling the containers now requires the user to learn to rest the pump in the center of the FMD, on the steps, to fill at full speed. You can also choose simply to take your time filling the container. We have posted both fill and pour instructions online at https://www.scepter.com/safety/instructional-videos/ which should help. Please contact our Customer Service team at 1-800-387-6018 or email customerservice@scepter.com so that we can resolve this for you. While the swelling may be a surprise to you, it means the can is doing its job. These cans are certified by EPA and CARB and sealed for emissions. When it is hot in the summer you can expect the fuel can to balloon a bit as the gases force the can to expand and when the temperature drops the fuel can may contract and the sides pull in a bit. We do recommend regular venting, particularly before each use. We are here to help! Scepter

                                Very handy features
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got the Scepter 2 Gallon SmartControl Gasoline Container to store gasoline in my garage for whenever I need it in my lawnmower. I really like the easy pour spout that doesn't allow me to spill gasoline on my hands or other things easily. I like the locking feature on the nozzle so I have a few seconds to get to my child if he happens to grab the gas can from me. The large green block was a difficult to squeeze at first, but once I got used to the feel of it, it became easier to use. As a mom of two young boys, I love the safety features!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Scepters two gallon smart control gasoline container is the perfect size for filling my outdoor tools. I like the rugged style of the can, the plastic is very durable and safe. The pour nozzle was a little tricky at first but eventually got the hang of it. There's no gas smell from keeping the can in my car and it doesn't leak or drip while pouring. There's a good controllable flow rate so it's easier filling up my tools. With the Sceptor brand, your definitely getting a better quality gas can with great safety features that eliminate gas smells and smart controls that limit how quickly the gas pours out to prevent spilling. Overall, great quality and I would absolutely spend a little more for a gasoline container with better features. I would also recommend if you run into trouble with the nozzle the website video was quite helpful. I highly recommend this brand to others.
