Q:The structural engineer wants this over the roof sheathing. Would this poke holes in the roof underlayment?

Answer This Question

A:  Hi Anon, thank you for your message. This Ricardo with Simpson Strong-Tie. In regard to your inquiry, it would depend how it's being used and what you are fastening over, but using the minimum 2.5" nail required over standard sheathing would penetrate through the roof underlayment. If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you.

    Answer This Question

A:  Electrical codes vary by jurisdiction, contact a local electrician or electrical inspector.

    by|Jan 26, 2022

A:  No. You need electrical nail plates for that

      by|Jan 28, 2022

A:  That would not do well.  Use metallic conduit instead.

A:  Hi Dick, thank you for your message. We want to make sure we address your question regarding protection for electrical wires. CS Coiled Strap is not intended to be used as a nail stop, we do offer our NS Nail Stoppers but they are not long enough to cover a 15' section. If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you. -Stacy

            Answer This Question

A:  Hi Bubba, thank you for your message. We want to make sure we address your question regarding SD Connector Screws for CS Coiled Strap. The #9 x 1-1/2" SD Connector Screw can be used as the replacement for the .148" x 2-1/2" nail for the CS Strap. If you can installing the CS Strap over sheathing, you will want to use the #9 x 2-1/2" long screw instead. If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you. -Stacy

Q:Are 8d 2.5” nails used on studs and top/bottom plates when using this as shear wall bracing on a 2x4 load bearing / exterior wall?

              Answer This Question

A:  CS16 needs to be installed with 8d(0.131")x2 1/2" common wire nails. However, we do not have information on its performance as a wall bracing mechanism. You would need to refer to the current Building Code for prescribed wall bracing solutions.

This was a really strong and thick gauge of strapping. Way overkill for my project and ended up returning it. Return was easy and quick.

The cost is up over 25% in the last three years but this material is great for building custom brackets. There are much more holes for screws than the material we purchased years ago. The 14 gauge is almost $78 while this material is 43 for 16 gauge. 16 gauge works well for the uses. We have such as building fence brackets or rigging scaffold to walls and many other uses just cut and bend.
