Can I used 12/2 for a 230v outlet???
Asked by: Joe
Short answer, maybe. I'd recommend asking a licensed electrician or consulting your department of build code enforcement. The answer depends on a lot of variables - how far away the outlet is from the breaker box, the amperage of the circuit (20 amp, 30 amp, 40 amp etc). It also depends on the number of wires needed. I believe most use 4 wires (line 1, line 2, neutral and ground), this only has 3 so you'd lose the neutral.

As the name implies, this 12/2 Romex type wire is easy to pull/install in applications where it is listed for use. Those who work with wire will appreciate that this wire pulls almost as easy as 14/2 with the added bonus of being able to use smaller staples for surface runs. It runs handily behind molding and into tight areas well (remember to leave enough room for expansion and don’t exceed its rated amperage). The conductors strip easily and the sheathing pulls cleanly when done correctly. Excellent wire – good value.

We do not have street lights out here in the country so, we needed light where we park at night. I recommend this product for this usage and so much more. Sincerely, Mrs. Picky Pants, Inspector #8 at AFL Enterprises.

The metal is brittle somehow but causes a lot of waste. This is the worst product experience Ive had. My previous purchase of this type of wire have been excellent. Maybe the length has more errors.

It was connected to a 20 amp circuit breaker as required. The job was completed to certification by me and my boss (Wife). All wiring was installed in grey 1/2” conduit.

It has solid copper wire in it. It connects perfectly to the breaker box and the receptacle. The electricity seems to flow quite well through the wire. No leaks on the floor that I can see. So yes I would recommend this product.

It pulls well through the studs in home applications and doesn't tangle. I like to use the larger gauge so that I can get the full 20 amps on my circuits. It's a bit more expensive than the smaller gauge but worth it from my perspective.
