Questions & Answers

I just got this generator. I added the oil. Checked all the switch positions and nothing. This generator won't start. Don't know if it is just junk or something else needs to be done.

          Answer This Question

don't understand the question. You start it I don't understand the question. You start it up and it generates electricity. . You can plug things into it, or, once you disconnect your house from the main power supply, it can run your entire house

By definition there are two 120V legs. Each leg can only be loaded with half the power. 240V is also available, but the same limit applies. If you use the 240V power any 120V load on any leg will added and overload on any leg will trip the outlet.

Please?what is the actual THD rating(s) for the GEN85KIDF? Previous answers refer to HD?s website which doesn?t have this information, another from the manufacturer states 10% (?), and others simply define what sine wave should be. The actual THD please

Home Depot had on sale for $1049 - good for 7000/8750 dual fuel & inverter style generator
I have not used it much, but so far it's great. I bought the little USB chargeable battery (does not come with generator but the connecting wires do come with the generator) which makes starting a lot nicer then pulling cord, although it was grossly overpriced at $70, but very nice to have. They did not have wheel kit for this, so I bought the wheel kit for Sportsman's 4000 watt generator. Actually I eventually bought 2 wheel kits because I decided I wanted it to have all 4 wheels for easy moving. The axle in this wheel kit is too short, so I bought 3/8" diameter steel rods from Home Depot and sawed off at correct length and drilled cotter pin holes at the ends. Transport handle that came with this wheel kit is not good, so I got a good one in another wheel kit from Home Depot. Fortunately I was able to return the two extra wheel kits, so I was only out $62 for 4 wheels and handle. Wish it had another 1000 watts or so, but could only find another inverter/duel fuel generator with only 500 additional watts, and it cost more than twice the price this one cost me.

I was a bit surprised at the way to use the "Electric Start" feature as it was totally unexpected. I like the "RV Outlet" feature the most as that was the intended usage. The light weight, the easy pull rope start feature, the overall design and look is great.

This unit had some hope. STAY AWAY!!
After 2 months of use, the carburetor went bad. I called the company and they sent me a replacement part but the lady(now no longer there) on the phone failed to mention to me that even though the unit has a full service and part replacement warranty for a year because I took it to a local mechanic it voided the warranty. Carburetor went bad again but now I have no warranty. The company told me the unit has to be serviced by them or myself. Make that make sense. Stupid Sportsman BS. WestingHouse

Not happy with the product at all. had serious damage on the motor flywheel assembly itself and then the spark plug wire was only partially hung onto the plug. The wheel kit did not match the unit model at all. Will not buy another one of these models and wouldn't recommend it either.

                        Works great so far!
Once I got one that wasn't damaged it is working great. First one came with the frame bent, oil leaking from it (how could that be? there isn't any oil in it to start with). Chatted a couple different times with Home Depot (They are awesome, awesome!) Did I mention how awesome HD online chat is? They credited me back for the first one and the 2nd unit came undamaged. Ran it for about 45 minutes this morning and everything good. A little louder than I like but it's ok.

This doesn’t come with wheels and the wheels that are advertised that are typically purchased with generator are not the right ones. I returned everything and got a refund

                          Extremely difficult to crank manually.
1st time took 18 pulls to crank on gas. After break in period changed oil and prepped for storage per directions. First power loss 6 months later. Filled tank with fresh gas. After 20 min trying to crank by hand took a 15 min break . Switched to propane and cranked on 16th attempt. Ran fine. Switched to gas and started on 9th attempt. Purchased a lithium battery pack which works great to start. Been starting on 3rd or 4 attempt with battery. This generator should come with battery.
