A:Â No they had a good edge on them

A:Â All chisels dont come "sharp" and should be sharpened before using. You can use sandpaper (cheapest to get started but longer in the long run) or sharpening stones. I prefer diamond sharpening stones, they are the most expensive but will last my lifetime and dont need to be flattened with waterstones. I wouldnt use a honing guide, hold the chisel at the angle it is already at and push the chisel away from you across the sharpening stone. As your arms are further away from you they will rotate the chisel to a different angle and put a camber (sort of round in the middle) in the iron, this is actually an advantage vs using a honing guide.

A:Â I use a bench grinder to sharpen mine when they really require a resurfacing; however, for general touch-up and maintenance you can use a honing guide coupled with a sharpening stone. Home Depot sells one that I have used and found adequate to keep the chisels sharp. It's available at (http://www.homedepot.com/p/POWERTEC-Chisel-Honing-Guide-71025/207185621)

A:Â Depending on how bad you have messed up the cutting surface you can use a bench grinder to get it back to where you can get it razor sharp with a whet stone and leather strap. Hope that helps

Affordably priced and expertly made, they perform on par with competitors at considerably higher price points.Â
Honestly, in the decade that I have owned them these chisels have been put through pretty much everything. Not only have they performed as chisels, but my wife has the nasty habit of using my tools for things they weren't designed for. She has used these to scrape things, pry things apart, and chip away at concrete. Obviously I don't approve of this behavior, but I've learned a long time ago to not voice my criticism. Instead I tell her father, who only looks at me with a sympathetic stare before telling me that she used to do the same thing to his chisels. I'm pretty sure he's glad she's now ruining my tools and not his, but he never says so.Â
All things considered, they have weathered the abuse very well.  They require little maintenance beyond a periodic sharpening and oiling. For the former, they are a breeze to repoint with a bench grinder--I use the Ryobi 8-inch variant(http://www.homedepot.com/p/Ryobi-8-in-Bench-Grinder-Green-BG828G/205598715)
