I like the coating on the tape which will protect the numbers but it makes the tape slippery so it does not lock securely. If I move it after measuring an object it often slips to a different length. Also, the tape is in inches but the stamp that tells how much to add for the case is metric. I'm not sure I can recommend, I am going back to Home Depot to see what else is available in this price range.

I own several Stanley products, including multiple tape measures.  This is hands down my favorite. I like it the best because of its size, weight, and convenience.  For most household tasks I don't need a bulky 25' roll. It's a great product that you can count on.  I have owned mine for nearly a decade during which time it has proven itself as an indispensable part of my toolbox.  It's affordably priced and well built--both the locking mechanism and belt clip are well built and perform reliably.  I have no regrets with this purchase and would highly recommend this product.  I mine all the time; at home, at friends, and outdoors.  It stands up to abuse very well, perform reliably, and are built to last a lifetime.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I've always used this rule. I've built houses, boats, decks,... I've always used this rule. I've built houses, boats, decks, whatever. It wears like iron, is easy to read and has heft enough to remind you where it is. I previously bought a FAT MAX 25' rule because it had a longer 'standout'. Bad part of the FATMAX was it showed eighths on one side and quarter inch on the other, so depending on your viewpoint you were always trying to convert. 18 1/4 was the big line between 18 1/8 and 18 3/8, unless you looked on the left side of the tape. This Powerlock shows all the graduations clearly and they are easy to read.

I knew that when I bought it. But, it easily fits into the pockets of my super-hero utility belt (tool belt) and the pockets of my coveralls. It can be easily retrieved without jamming in those pockets. I much prefer the extension capabilities of the Fat Max types, but they are very awkward to carry. I mean, where DO you carry the blasted things? I'm very big on efficiency of use. If I have to struggle to fish a tape measure out of a pocket or move around with a huge lump hanging from a pocket, belt or apron that can easily be knocked off, I'm not happy. But then, fighting to keep a tape from collapsing at only six feet is a pain too. There is no perfect tape measure.

In the 40 years of doing professional construction, I have tried all the other brands and even the other sizes of Stanleys. This one just fits the bill. It is affordable, not big and bulky, strong, markings are easy to read and the mylar coating on the blade it tough. With the other brands, the blade is flimsy, the markings are either too hard to read or there are so many markings on them that you cannot decipher what is what. This one is the plain vanilla and that is all you need 98% of the time for most construction projects.

They make tape measures that are longer, fatter, and more expensive. This one is the one I've used since I can remember. It works well and the blade has the standard markings and is easy to read. They wear out eventually - usually the blade breaks where the hook is attached - but by that time you've had more than your money's worth of service. My town doesn't have an HD - and the other big box that's here sells Stanley, but not this particular model - so I ordered it from HD online. It's worth the trouble.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I go through about five of these per year.... I go through about five of these per year. Ten years ago they were the standard, reliable and built to last. Sadly the quality has diminished significantly. The tape thickness has been reduced such that it no longer has the strength to extend out and make long reads. Recently I had a tape just disconnect and break free of the spindle. It was two weeks old. So it goes with the race to the bottom of quality in manufacturing products.
