I have a similar set and they are sharp. If they come with plastic blade guards use then for storage (protects the edge and your fingers). A honing stone, with a guide maintains the edge.

                                  A Good Buy
This is a great basic chisel set for only $9.97. I bought the same set years ago, and they’ve held up really well. They’re sharp, durable, and can take a beating. Nice work, Stanley. At this price, it’s almost easier to buy new ones than to sharpen the chipped ones—though I still hang on to them. I highly recommend this set.

Durable, Updated Wood Chisel Performs Great!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was excited to receive my wood chisel set. The updated handle design with Stanley logo demonstrated good aesthetics with quality and durable construction. Upon removing from the package I noted the clean steel without any blemishes and sharp edges. I wanted to test out the new handle for durability and it performed great. Multiple hits with a mallet while cutting into wood didn't even mar or scratch the surface. The cutting edges of all three were well sharpened and ready to go, performing well both with and against the wood grain. The one area that I'd like to see all tool manufacturers target is product packaging that shows the product well at retail, but also makes it easy for removal and recycling of the package.

                                      Good chisel set.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These chisels were used to cut clearance and locating slots in an oak board used as a prototype fixture. The chisels cut good across the grain as well as with the grain. The 1” chisel was hit at least a dozen times with a hammer but there are no marks present (note, these don’t have a continuous steel backbone out to the strike cap). The only indication of use is a wear mark on the face of the chisel, see picture. The handles fit good and seemed “light weight” but they held up to the hammering and prying. For finish cuts and delicate work, I found my hand was inching up onto the tapered metal neck. This metal surface was smooth and still very comfortable to hold. The blades cut well (especially the ½” blade, my workhorse) and didn’t need to sharpen any of them yet. Happy with them so far BUT they are missing the important edge protectors.

                                        Hard Edge, Quick Work
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This set has three of the most popular sizes, 1/2", 3/4" and 1", with the size etched into the blade for easy identification. I used the 1/2" for my project, which was to mortise door hinges into the door jamb. The well-honed edge tapped into the wood easily to trace out the shape, and it scraped out the material with very little effort. The steel is very solid and I think it will hold an edge for a long time. The only problem I had with these was the handle. My previous chisel had a rubberized handle, which was more comfortable to hold. These handles are a semi-hard polypropylene, and while they are contoured to fit in the hand and do grip better, they are not as comfortable in the hand. These are not uncomfortable to hold by any means, but are different from the set I switched from.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a must have chisel set for any home DIY-er. I have a puppy that’s chewed on a couple chairs legs that needed repaired. These came in handy for smoothing out the bite marks before sanding. The carbon steel makes these very sturdy and sharp. I like that these can be resharpened if they start to dull. This set includes three sizes that can cover most home improvement jobs easily.

I needed to cut a1/8” deep mortice for a dead old strike plate and these did the trick. The chisels are plenty sharp enough as they come out of the pack and the price cannot be beat.

I have used all three chisels in this set and they are all sharp and durable and performed the tasks I need them for. I've hit them with a framing hammer, finishing hammer and dual rubber mallet and they show little sign of impact. They're definitely sufficient for my projects in the garage and around the house. I have not used them on hard woods but they cut well on dried out door frame studs and pine casing. Good value. They don't include blade caps so I tape them to protect the edge when stored.

A good practical set of wood chisels
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These chisels fill the niche between homeowner junk and artisan tools - ie "The Working Man's Chisel" . These are good chisels, for doing real work - making something fit, cleaning out mortises for door hardware, taking tongues off laminate floor, notching for pipe or conduit, etc. They wouldn't be my first choice for guitar fretwork or cutting fine dovetails but I don't do that anyway. They are well made. The set contains the three most useful sizes - 1/2". 3/4" and 1". Comfortable plastic handles - but be aware there is no metal striking cap, which in my opinion is good as your not supposed to pound on a wood chisel anyway and I don't know why so many seem to think you do. In my opinion a metal striking cap only invites and perpetuates misuse. They are plenty sharp out of the box but take on a real razors edge with some oil and a whetstone. I am very pleased with them and will get a lot of use out of them. I have attached some photos, and recommend them highly,
