Thank you for your inquiry. That will not work, as the switch to activate the unit is spring loaded and will turn off if someone is not holding it. Additionally, we do not advise attempting to set this unit to remain on constantly. This is only meant to be used while being held. It doesn't say in the specs. It's 3,000 volts from (2) C batteries, so the amperage has to be a tiny amount. If you are worried about getting shocked, it hasn't happened to me and I've put my hand on the screen. What I can say is that it is effective.
