Q:What do we do in the case where we have 1/2-inch concrete backer board for the walls and the valve is sitting too far out since this bracket gives you a 1-inch gap between the stud and the black protective shield??

Not universal for all shower types
I bought this to install a valve in a shower with an acrylic insert (direct-to-stud). The depth setting for the valve is incorrect for that style of shower, so I will be returning. I wish this was clearly advertised. Otherwise, it seems like a good product, and I definitely would have used it if I had a tile shower.
