I'm by no means am a professional, but when you purchase a pad such as these for less than $5, the results are what you'd expect. If I wanted a $50 finish then spend an equal $50 or more in products to get the job done like ya like it. I bought a brush for $30 although the finish was commendable, I got in a hurry and forgot to care for the brush after use. Now those same clumps are in between the bristles! With this pad, I saturate it just right and keep moving. Once an area has been stained, I don't re-stain it if needed until at least 24 hours later to avoid these cotton lint particles. Also, I thought I read on the internet such as www.popularwoodworking.com/techniques, that a light sanding between coats until the poly coat is recommended...might be just the weather. And, I re-used this pad for the same stain weeks later or toss that used pad in the waste receptacle! So what I've done of late is instead of taking these low ratings at face value, tried it out (for $3.99, and a spam musubi plate for my helper!); it served my purpose very well! Easy 5 stars, going back to get more of these pads right now for the next wood piece gonna go cheap and try it with the poly coating! In the attached picture, the only thing I didn't get from Home Depot were incidental screws and the mattress foundation.

Lint sponge
I agree with the other reviews. This sponge sheds lint like no tomorrow. Thankfully I did the bottom of my table first and realized this issue. I have to pull off the little lint fibers. Really pointless that a stain sponge wouldn't be lint free.
Instead I used disposable paper towels from the 300 pack lint free wipes sold in home Depot. No lint whatsoever.

I've used these for years. While you cans stain with most anything, I find these useful to apply evenly and to have something more substantial than a rag in my hands

Terrible!!!
Do not purchase this product. I've never experienced so much lint in a stain.
I had to strip everything and get a new can of stain due to all the shedding from these sponges.

Love them!
I loved working with these. They hold the stain so you aren't having to keep going back with a brush or rag. Previous review complained of lint. I've never had that problem, but by wood is smooth and prepared for staining.

Lint everywhere!
Have tried these pads on two different projects and each time I remind myself I need to throw the rest of them away. They are that terrible. Used to stain a perfectly smooth tabletop and it left so much cotton lint stuck to the table I had to resand it and start again. Tried them again tonight on some wood trim pieces with the same results. The pads just shed fibers, to the point I was physically picking lint balls off the trim. Absolutely awful product.
