If beeper goes off how do you stop it if the battery is new ?

Asked by BJ October 25, 2020

Press and hold the test button. If this doesn't work then remove the batteries and disconnect it from the power clip on the bottom of the unit. If it continues, then contact the store or Mfg. for an exchange. DO NOT USE COMPRESSED AIR OR AIR IN A CAN AROUND THESE, AS THAT WILL SET THEM OFF!

will this work with other brands of detectors

Does the ground wire (yellow) need to be connected for the unit to work properly?

Asked by Martin July 25, 2020

Answer

The Yellow Wire is NOT a ground wire! It is an Alarm Interconnect wire, to wire smoke alarms together, to have them go off together, when there is an alarm. For larger homes, this give everyone in the home a alarm if one goes off. If your alarms are not interconnected, just leave this wire disconnected. To be safe, put a wire nut on it. Ground wires, if colored, are always Green. Read your manual for further questions.

Answer

Most AC Powered Alarms, have a Yellow wire used to link alarm units together, so when one goes off, they all go off, warning everyone in the home. Only connect the White and Black wires if you only have two wires. Leave the Yellow wire disconnected and wrap with electrical tape and/or wire nut. As for replacing a CO unit with a 4 in 1 unit, it depends on where the unit is going. Avoid putting 4 in 1 units in kitchens and garages because the different fumes generated by cooking and autos will trigger the alarms falsely.

I need to install a CO2 detector in an area that is usually not occupied, maybe 2-3 hours a day. ...

Answer

The alarm will sound when levels are too high and go off when the levels are within normal range. When the alarm does trip and levels go back into normal or acceptable range the device will still flash letting you know it has tripped. It is especially helpful when you have more than one of these installed and they are interconnected. It allows you to locate where the alarm originated. After the danger is gone you will have to reset the flashing light. Very simple to do just follow the instructions that come with the units.

Can this be used as battery only? I have no where to hard wire it in.

Yes, but it will beep all the time because there is no 120V.

Can this be used to replace a USI CD-9795 without re-wiring? I cannot a fford an electrician to install a new one.

I can't really answer your question, since I have never mixed different brands of smoke detectors. My assumption is that it would probably work, but you would have to test it. This unit does not require an electrician to install. These types of smoke detectors have 3 wires, a white, a black, and a red wire. You can match them up from the old unit yourself and install the unit yourself as I did. (always turn off the power before working on anything electrical) You may even try to see if taking the connector off of the back of the unit and simply replacing old unit with the new unit, the back connectors are usually universal. Try this first and see if it works. You should contact USI or the manufacturer of your old unit to verify that the units are compatible. Good luck.

Will this alarm detect propane?

Asked by Dan December 22, 2018

Answers

I don't think this model lists propane. I have seen another brand that offered both gases in one unit, so you might keep looking. Just FYI, if I remember correctly, propane gas is heavier than air, so you have to mount the detector low, not on a ceiling.

Nice alarm > Problem mounting plate
Super easy to connect; super annoying to mount. Most alarms either have a hinge and just "click" to the plate or easily twist into a position to flush nicely. My old battery-based alarms mounted/unmounted easily - no issues - none, this thing - what a mess. Out of the package, the method used (a twist on) never crossed my mind for concern; however, the tolerance to twist on is so narrow that it does not easily twist on. I have TWO of these and neither one wants to twist into position. Now I have to find some alternate way of flush mounting this to my ceiling.
