Our Control Stainer 350 (meant for applying thin materials like stain), can hold up to 45 ounces of material + room for thinning.
You can thin and clean up with mineral spirits if it's an oil based material. If it's water based, just thin and clean up with water. For more help contact us at 1-800-328-8251.
If you used a water based material in the sprayer, just use water to clean. The warmer the water is, the easier it is. If you used an oil based material in the sprayer, use mineral spirits to clean it, then rinse it out with water before storage.
Yes, there are a few things you can do to paint/stain to ensure it sprays well. 1 - Stir the paint/stain with a mixer in a drill until its creamy smooth, about 1 min per gallon – this makes a big difference 2 - Strain the paint/stain before it goes into the sprayer – especially if it’s a previously opened can 3 - Add a flow agent, like Floetrol or Paint Easy (this is not a thinner) for latex paint – Penetrol for oil based – used for fine finishing, not for your fence 4 - Or you can thin, even as little as 5% can make a big difference, water for water-based materials and mineral spirits for oil-based material. Up to 20% is fine. Typically 10% is enough.
Our Control Series are all self-contained, turbine based, HVLP sprayers that only need electricity to operate. No air compressor is needed.
Our Control Stainer HVLP are designed with thin bodied materials in mind, like stain. It won't do well with thick paints. We suggest using our Flexio HVLP models as they have more power to spray thicker fluids. Kilz in the CS 350 would require about 30% thinning with water to spray best.
Hello William, Thank you for contacting Wagner Spray Tech with your inquiry. We recommend spraying parallel to your surface. If the unit is tipped past a 45-degree angle, material can enter the turbine and cause it to malfunction. Happy Spraying! Lindsay M. Product Support Supervisor Wagner Spray Tech
The Control Stainer series are designed for thin bodied materials, like stain. It will struggle to spray full thickness latex paint. Look at our Flexio models for paint application as they have more power to spray thicker materials.
