Remove the brass top knob by turning counter-clockwise. You should be able to pop the brass adapter out and place the other one inside. Yes there's a simple fix. The top knob should be able to be removed by unthreading knob. Then you will need an allen wrench #10-32 or #10-24 to tighten down the bolt. Replace the knob top.
