Hi Elizabeth. Have you already installed the Universal NuFit over the top of your corroded drain? The Universal NuFit flange has a tapered lip that goes downward to assist with any cracks or bumps in the corrosion. If you need additional assistance, Watco can be reached at 800-308-0864.
I would contact Watco at 800-308-0864 and ask for assistance. That absolutely shouldn't be happening. There is a five-year limited warranty. If there's no simple fix when speaking with them, you may need to return to a Home Depot store and Watco could send out a new one at N/C.
Make sure that the epoxy silicone glue has no cracks and is spread out in a nice uniform circle with no possible gaps when pressing down.

This product glues to the edges around the drain opening. As long as the cross bars and screw are below the opening and don’t stick up higher so this can glue on flush where your drain plate was, this will work.
Both the Watco Universal NuFit and SimpliQuick Tub Fix bathtub stoppers should work for your situation. SimpliQuick Tub Fix is meant for residential home owners and you can purchase a composite pin adapter, instead of the brass pin adapter the Universal NuFit stopper has. We recommend the 9587800-PP-CP-G-47 and can be found on HomeDepot.com. This includes the stopper and an Innovator snap-on overflow plate that will retrofit your Trip Lever device. Watco provides installation on YouTube.com, check out these links: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6FHtS6xHTI and for the Innovator installation - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yZo7OkiY5E
This glues on to the actual drain in the tub with silicone that’s included. Just make sure to squirt it evenly and around the entire piece. The tub drain, (usually the chrome drain ring with cross bars) needs to be there because this will just glue on top of it. It works great. My flipper, plunger or whatever you want to call it stopped working also. I changed out the clean-out overflow plate to one without a flipper, glued this part on the drain and it looks brand new and works. The only issues, but I think a bonus is the small drain holes. It catches a lot of hair and needs to we wiped out VERY OFTEN or the tub will start draining very slowly. This is a major plus to help keep stuff from clogging the pipes. I would definitely buy it again and recommend it. If you ever had to remove it, you might be able to get a thin exact knife under it to cut the silicone. But I have to need to do that at all.
