Answer This Question

Hello Tony, Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot. This setting-type joint compound sets in approximately 90 minutes. You can add additional coats once the previous coat has become firm. It is not necessary to wait until it is completely dry and white. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future.

Can I use this for skim coating?
    ByAug 11, 2024

    Answer This Question

While this setting-type joint compound can be used for skim coating, there are some considerations. Some users have reported needing to mix it with all-purpose joint compound for better adhesion, especially on painted surfaces. Additionally, it's been suggested to apply a topping coat over the fast-setting compound because it might negatively affect paint applied directly to it.

This was my first time using hot mud. I patched a large hole in a plaster ceiling left by a repipe job. The drywall repair pieces were recessed so I had to fill the void with this mud. The repair came out good. It began to harden about 45 minutes after I mixed it, right on schedule.

This is my go to mud for my patches and small jobs. I’d like to purchase it from Home Depot because they sell a lot of it so I know I’m always getting a fresh bag.

Wespac "5 minute mud", (as we call it in the industry) is GREAT for first coat application, especially tape on corners. You better have it all cut and in place though. *Keep in mind* It dries quickly, as advertised, for the pro and not for a novice drywaller.
