Will this drill through Caliche?

No. Soil must be soft with no rocks. The metal is not strong enough to move rocks. Hitting rocks will cause the drill to slap against your hand and you will break the tool if you don’t stop the drill as fast as possible.

Would this work for aerating a compost bin

The tool is sturdy. I hit rocks and it did not break. Drill slowly to avoid the drill bruising your hand when you hit rocks. It did the job. Highly recommended!

Perfect for my needs. I recommend a strong drill that can hold it well as it can create some strong torque when cutting into roots. Excellent for bulb planting!

The Yard Butler 24 in Roto Planter did not meet my needs. If my soil had been sandy loom, perhaps it would have performed better. The Roto Plantar kept stopping and did not did deep enough for me...it only scratched the surface, much like the squirrels in my yard do. I ended up renting the smallest tiller at Home Depot and the job was performed to my satisfaction.
