About This Product

MultiScanner HD900 1 Step multi-function stud finder quickly and easily locates studs and joists behind walls, floors, and ceilings. It also locates metal as well as live AC electrical wiring. A 4-mode switch makes it easy to change functions, while the ultra-bright display screen, SpotLite Pointer, and audio tone all indicate the location of the target. The signal strength indicator helps to distinguish between shallow and deep targets.

  • StudScan mode locates the center, edges, and direction of wood or metal studs up to 3/4 in. (19 mm) D
  • DeepScan mode doubles the scanning depth to 1-1/2 in. (38 mm)
  • WireWarning detection indicates the presence of live, unshielded AC electrical wiring up to 2 in. (51 mm) D in stud and metal scanning modes
  • Metal scan mode locates non-ferrous metal, such as copper pipe, up to 1-1/2 in. (38 mm) D, and ferrous metal, such as steel pipe, up to 3 in. (76 mm) D
  • AC scan mode locates live, unshielded AC electrical wiring up to 2 in. (51 mm) D
  • ACT (Auto Correcting technology) automatically corrects common errors, such as when scanning begins over a stud
  • Backlit LCD display with target spotlight indicates the direction and edge of the stud and illuminates when the center of the stud is detected
  • SpotLite pointer shines an arrow-shaped light on the wall to clearly indicate the center of the stud
  • Zircon recommends the use of a brand new 9-Volt battery (sold separately), check the battery expiration date upon battery installation and replace battery periodically due to the LCD power requirements
  • Translucent base and illuminated V-marker groove for more accurate marking of target location
  • Signal strength indicator helps to distinguish between shallow and deep targets

Q:Will this work on cement walls to find conduit
by|Nov 30, 2023
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Hi Annie. If it's ferrous metal conduit it will find it up to 3" deep in cement. However, the best Zircon tools for finding metal in concrete are the MT6 and the MT7. They will locate ferrous and nonferrous metal up to 6" deep in concrete and tell you how deep the metal is. For more information please contact our customer support through the Zircon website. Thank you.

      Answer This Question

A:  Yes, pay attention to what it is set to. It can detect wires, metal, studs. Make sure you have it set to what you want. I have used it for the exact purpose you are asking about. It works.

A:  Hello. As long as the total depth to the stud is not greater then 11/2" then the HD900 should be able to find the studs. Thank you.

Just Start Drilling - You'll Have A Better Chance
This thing is complete garbage. Works just a well without a battery. Six studs indicated - Six holes drilled - ZERO studs found. COMPLETE AND UTTER GARBAGE.

Hello. We're sorry to hear your HD900 is not functioning properly for you. There are variables in construction that can cause a StudSensor to give false readings and quite often these issues have to do with the environment you’re operating on. There are tried and true techniques we can help you with that can explain why the tool is reacting to density changes that may not be studs and will also promote consistent scanning results. We would be happy to trouble shoot this with you, whatever the problem may be. We stand behind our product. Please contact us through the Zircon website and we’ll figure it out for you. Thank you. zircon

what is wrong with this thing?
I don't recommend this product. Mine must be defective. It detects a stud when there is no stud, now I have a wall full of holes.

This is somewhat of a difficult review. I gave it the 3 star rating because I purchased it for it's Deep Scan option, which did not work at all. If this is your purpose for purchasing this scanner, I highly recommend you do more research. I my case there is 3/4" drywall supported by 3/4" cross supports that the drywall is mounted to. The scanner can find the metal studs all day long. And it is accurate as to their position. But never once coule the scanner find the studs which are 1.5" deep from the surface of the drywall. However, for it's purpose of finding metal and electrical, it worked great. For this purpose, it's an excellent choice and I might have given it a better rating if it had worked for the project I purchased it for. Unforetunately, I have lost a day of work and I have to return the scanner and find something that actually works for the deep scanning.

Hello. The 1 1/2" depth is right at the limit of the HD900's ability to scan through and if you add texture you have exceeded the limit even if only slightly. The HD900 has MetalScan mode which can locate ferrous metals up to 3" deep and can be used to find the nails that are holding the cross supports to the studs.
You can use DeepScan mode to find the cross supports so you don't mistake the drywall nails for the nails used on the cross supports. Thank you. zircon

Great multi-function scanner but as with all scanners - subject to error. I recommend several scans of the same area to be sure you seeing what you suspect is there. I do have to replace the felt slide on the bottom (wall side) of the scanner due to some imperfections causing the scanner to stick to the wall and marking the painted surface. See photos of scanner in use locating metal support post buried within 1" thick drywall soundboard also electrical.

                Worthless
Owned this product about 3 years now. The longer I have it the worse it gets. I have multiple stud finders, but today I just happened to only have this one, so I used it. BIG MISTAKE. I ran over the same spot 6-7 different times. Each time I got a different location for the center of the stud, within about a 1 inch span of each-other. I averaged the locations, ran a screw in, and completely missed the stud. Also gives me low battery notifications even on new batteries. Would never recommend.
