About This Product
Hardie Backer 0.42 in. Cement Board is a cement backerboard designed for use with walls, floors and countertops. Use on walls in moisture prone areas, as a tile backerboard and as an underlayment for all tile, vinyl and wood flooring applications. Provides excellent adhesion, resists moisture and features MoldBlock Technology to protect the board against damage from mold. 0.42 in. thickness provides strength and ease of use on walls, with flooring or countertop projects in bathrooms, kitchens and laundry rooms.

Product description mentions that this is mold resistant but I'm wondering if it is still recommended to apply some sort of waterproofing membrane, like RedGard, overtop the cement backer? Additionally, what kind of sealant is recommended for joints?
We do not require a water-proofing membrane unless required by your local building code. Is this good backing for a propane wall heater
The product is not specifically designed for that purpose, but it is a non combustible product and will not burn. If you need a 1-hour rated assembly, then you will need to use other products.
Would this board be OK to install vertically as a perimeter for a home on stilts if then covered by 2x6 boards? Wondering how outdoor moisture with effect it.

Which side goes in or out?
HardieBacker board can be installed so either side is in or out, both faces perform the same.
Could Hardie board be used for crawl space doors
Unfortunately, we would not recommend any of our products for use as a door.
I am going to use this between subfloor and tile in a kitchen. Should I apply thinset between subfloor and this board first and then screw into subfloor?
We require a thin layer of thin set underneath the Backer for tile and stone applications
Can I use this backer board on a metal front of a gas fireplace
The HardieBacker boards are noncombustible and are not affected by high temperatures, they can be used to front a fireplace.
Is this backer board fire resistant?
