Garage Refrigerator Heater Kit

I bought this for a garage fridge and after receiving it I called technical support to get some info. It is basically a small heating strip that "fools" the temp sensor into thinking it's warmer in the fridge than outside. This makes sense for the winter, but what about in the summer I asked? They agreed that it would cause the fridge to run a lot, perhaps constantly, when it was hot out. This could cause "freezing up" of the unit, overworking the compressor and perhaps damage the system, not to mention the excessive electricity cost! They said that kit should be disconnected in warmer weather and reconnected when cooler. Crazy! It is way too much hassle to unload the fridge, take the thermostat / light control unit out, connect or disconnect the unit, reinstall the whole thing and then reload the fridge every time the weather changes. After being told this by the Home Depot technicians themselves, needless to say I returned the unit.

I have a FRIGIDAIRE FFTR1821TW0 fridge and this garage kit fit perfect. Took about 15 minutes to install the kit and within less than 24hrs, there was a noticeable difference in the freezer temperature. If you have a fridge in your garage and temperatures are in the freezing range and your freezer doesn't seem to keep things frozen you should get this kit. Instructions are in black and white, with tiny pictures, but fairly easy to follow. If you look on YouTube there is a video showing how to install the kit. I'd highly recommend this kit and now very happy my garage fridge!

Item has worked well to keep garage frig cold and keep from turning off during weather below zero. Easy installation, up and running within less than 30 minutes.

I had not heard of this product before and thought my garage refrigerator was malfunctioning. This provided an easy fix to counter the colder temperatures in an unheated garage.

Works well, easy to install. I guess I will need to know how to turn it OFF when it is not needed.

Not difficult to install but read instructions carefully. Freezer seems to be working well but temperature in garage has not been cold for a prolonged period to really tell for sure.

Sold as a match for my make and model of refrigerator but had completely different electrical connections that wouldn’t match up. Would need an electrician to know where to cut wires and reconnect. Returned at Home Depot without event.

Does not work for my fridge. Was told by home depot staff that it would. Wasn’t able to use

Heater worked fine. Took care of freezer problem.
