Addendum to SB1112 answer. If the length of the wall exceeds 16' I recommend expansion gaps. Place an 8p nail between the plank ends at 8'oc, Then stagger the gaps as you go up. To prevent any of the sleepers from bowing out add a bead of PL400 adhesive.
Hello, Johnny, Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot. To install wood planks on a block wall, you'll need furring strips to create a level surface for attaching the planks. Here's a general guide: 1. Prepare the Block Wall: Clean the block wall thoroughly to remove any dust, debris, or loose mortar. You can use a wire brush or a scraper for this. 2. Install Furring Strips: Attach vertical furring strips (1x2 or 1x3 inch wood strips) to the block wall using concrete screws or anchors. Ensure the furring strips are level and plumb. The spacing of the furring strips should align with the planks' mounting points. 3. Attach the Planks: Use finish or brad nails to attach the planks to the furring strips. The product information mentions using a finish or brad nailer for installation. Start from the bottom and work your way up, ensuring each plank is level and tightly butted against the adjacent plank. 4. Finishing (Optional): The product information mentions the planks can have a poly finish added if desired. If you choose to apply a finish, follow the manufacturer's instructions. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future.
Yes, you can apply a polyurethane finish over the reclaimed wood planks. The product details mention that it is unfinished but can have a poly finish added if desired. This will seal the wood and prevent discoloration from transferring to your bedding.
No wood is insect proof. Resistant, yes (redwood, cedar etc.).
While there's no way to virtually "try before you buy" with this product, you can order a single pack to see the color and texture in person. This allows you to assess if it suits your room's aesthetic before committing to a larger purchase. Since the planks are real reclaimed wood, keep in mind there will be variations in appearance between packs.
You can't at Home Depot. But, Menards has a display of various colors. And you can buy a single package to take home and see if you like it.
Apply a bead of construction adhesive (PL400) about an inch from the edges and then pin gun them to the wall at about a 30 degree angle with 1-1/2" pin gun nails.
