Yes, running the drain hose to a floor drain works fine. You always want some water in your floor drain to keep sewer gas from backing up into the basement. Obviously, it won't do any good if the basement is flooding due to water backing up the drains.
Does it need to be shutdown for freezing temps
When the dehumidifier is freezing, it will stop automatically and star the defrost function.
